#NotJustKajal: How To Make Your Eyes Look Big and Beautiful!

Priyanka Ghura  |  May 6, 2016

Who said kajal and eyeliner were your only weapons of choice to accentuate those eyes? With just a bit of colour, a few swipes of concealer and some sweeps of the “magic mascara wand”, you can seriously get your eyes to pop. We give you a few expert techniques on to make your eyes look oh-so-big and beautiful! With just a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to add oodles of magic to your peepers!

1. Even Out Those Dark Circles

There’s no point in spending loads of time perfecting your eye makeup when dark circles can just pull the whole look down. Plus, they make your eyes look smaller. So, the first step is to use a colour-correcting concealer to cover them up. We show you how to cover up those under-eye circles in no time. You may want to rub some ice on your eyes first to settle any puffiness and bags.

POPxo Recommends: L’Oreal True Match Concealer (Rs. 995)

2. You Can Never Go Wrong With Dramatic Lashes

Before you go any further, work on curling and lengthening your lashes – this will open up your eyes instantly. If you haven’t already, get your hands on an eyelash curler to bring plenty of drama to your lashes. Once you’ve curled them up, add a few generous sweeps of mascara (be careful of clumps), and see how amazing your eyes look already! Skip the mascara on the lower lashes – it isn’t as flattering as you think.

POPxo Recommends: Colorbar Showstopper Eyelash Curler (Rs. 525)

3. The Magic Of White Eyeshadow

We’ve told you this little trick numerous times, and it’s still a must. Dab some white eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eye for that dewy effect. This instantly opens up your eyes, as it makes your eyes look brighter. PS: This is very doable even when in a rush!

POPxo Recommends: NYX Single Eyeshadow (Rs. 375)

4. Line The Waterline For That Extra Punch

One tip that makeup artists swear by is carefully lining your waterline with a white eye pencil. This definitely brings that extra zing to your peepers, but if you feel like white is too much for you, try doing it with a gold eye pencil. Make sure you’re lining your lower and upper waterline as well. You’ve got to try it to believe how much bigger and brighter it can make your eyes look!

POPxo Recommends: Maybelline Vivid and Smooth Eyeliner Pencil (Rs. 235)

5. Colourful Shadows For That Pop

If you want a subtle look then an eyeshadow that matches the colour of your skin, but with a bit of shimmer, is perfect for making your eyes pop. And if you do want a pretty pop of colour, then vibrant hues like aqua blue, lavender, pink and silver look fantastic. Use a flat brush to sweep the colour onto bare lids and blend in a darker colour into the outer corners. Make sure not to use matte colours though; a bit of shimmer will maximize the effect we’re going for. Also, the way you distribute the colour makes a major difference. Try and concentrate more colour towards the centre of your lids – this is the widest part of your eye and should be emphasized. You can also try eyeliners in these colours instead of the usual black, to help make the whites of your eyes brighter, which makes them look bigger.

POPxo Recommends: Rimmel Colour Rush Quad Eyeshadow (Rs. 550)

6. Define The Crease

Brown eyeshadow is just what you need for this secret trick. Sweep some on along the arc of your crease, starting from the outer corner to the centre of your eye and make sure to blend, blend, blend. It adds to the illusion of bigger, gorgeous peepers.

POPxo Recommends: Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Links In Java (Rs. 195)

7. Line It Right

Sure you know how to line your eyes like a pro, you have been doing it since forever, after all. But, if you want to make your eyes look bigger and almond-shaped, you should try this simple technique. Simply, make the line a bit thicker at the outer edges, compared to the centre of the line. Then use an eyeshadow brush or a cotton ball to smudge.

POPxo Recommends: Lakme Absolute Forever Silk Eyeliner (Rs. 425)

8. Light It Up

No matter how simple or dramatic you like your eye makeup, add some finishing touches with a great highlighter for that illuminated effect. Use some on the inner corners, along the brow bone and in the centre of your lids to make your peepers look more awake and instantly brighter.

POPxo Recommends: MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter (Rs. 1,652)
