Hits & Clichés! We Do Not Agree With What Netizens Have To Say About Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Dhaakad’

Kangana Ranaut is trending on Twitter yet again. But do not fret ‘coz it is for all the right reasons. Well, mostly. Earlier today, the trailer of her much-anticipated film, Dhaakad finally dropped and the netizens seem to approve. In what’s being hailed as India’s very first women-centric spy thriller, Kangana can be seen dominating the screen as she goes on a killing spree. The trailer lingers even after you are done watching it. However, that isn’t enough for us to give it a thumbs up. It is impressive but there are moments where we were left scratching our heads. Here’s why Dhaakad’s trailer has left us with mixed feelings:

What We Love

There are certainly a lot of things about the Dhaakad trailer that work for us. Here are the major ones:

Kangana’s Screen Presence

Kangana is an exceptional actress sans any doubts and she does not fail to impress in Dhaakad’s trailer either as Agent Agni. From the beginning of the teaser till the very end, your eyes will be hooked to the actress. So imposing is her presence. The netizens are currently hailing Kangana for her versatility and we see where it is coming from. It is safe to say that she is the perfect choice for the role and we believe it is as good as it gets.

The Cinematography & BGM

Credits need to be given to the film’s cinematographers and BGM creators. The trailer runs for less than two minutes but that’s quite enough to give viewers a taste of what is to unravel. It is apparent that a lot of hard work has gone into adding the finishing touches to the film and it has worked. It leaves an impact.

What We Detest

Adimittedly, the Dhaakad trailer has left us intrigued. And while we applaud Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai for pushing the envelope by making a women-centric action film, we do feel that some clichés could have been avoided. Here’s what we are talking about:

Seven Looks But Not Really

It’s 2022. Dhaakad makers clearly have invested a lot of money in cinematography. Yet, when they say seven looks, it boils down to seven wigs which is just unacceptable. Contrary to how Kangana fans would like to project it on social media, she is no Villanelle. Of course, this is mostly a failure on the part of stylists and MUAs’ than on Kangana’s. But it does dilute both her character as a secret agent as well as the entire narrative of the film.

Twitter

Why Should Boys Have All The Fun‘, Really?

For majority of the trailer we see “why should boys have all the fun” written on the screen. We have a lot of questions. Firstly, really? Is that the best peg that you could think of? Is it 2008? Are we watching a scooty ad?

Verdict

The Dhaakad trailer is full of both hits and misses. It would be interesting to see which side weighs heavy in the film. The best part? We do not have to wait too long to find out. The film’s release has been preponed and it will hit the theatres on May 20th this year. Let’s see how it pans out.
