EDT, EDP, EDC? A Simple Guide To Selecting The Right Type Of Perfume

The world of fragrances is enormous and filled with a smorgasbord of options for everyone. From floral and fruity to intense and leathery, it’s got it all. Whether you want something for your personality or something for your mood of the day, one has plenty of options. From price points to the concentration of the fragrance, one is free to apply whatever filter they may require for their desired vial of scent. However, the same variation we are a fan of might appears daunting to beginners. It is a simple, yet commonly found problem novices experience when entering the fragrance industry for the first time. So if you are too, confused between EDP, EDT, body mists, or just wondering which type of perfume would be the right pick for you, read on.

Eau De Parfum (EDP)

Strength: 10% – 20%
Longevity: 6 – 8 hours

Eau De Parfums are the strongest member in the fragrance family chart (only second to parfum oils). They include a fragrance oil concentration of somewhere between 10 to 20%, which causes them to last up to a striking digit of 8 hours without re-application. Naturally, EDPs are the most expensive of the lot too.

Eau De Toilette (EDT)

Strength: 5% – 15%
Longevity: 2 – 4 hours

Eau De Toilette is second in line to EDTs in everything – perfume concentration, longevity and price points. Their perfume concentration lies between 5 to 15%, which lasts for up to 4 hours. You might need some extra sprays at the end of your third hour to avoid your fragrance from dying down.

Eau De Cologne (EDC)

Strength: 2% – 4%
Longevity: Upto 2 hours

Eau De Colognes include a light fragrance concentration of 2 to 4%. This can vary with different brands, but their longevity is usually up to 2 hours maximum. Colognes are often richly fragranced but can die down real quick depending on their composition.

Body Mist

Strength: 2% – 3%
Longevity: 1 – 4 hours

One of the most common fragrance options amongst women is body mists. Formulated with light and airy fragrance composition, body mists are perfect for your daily wear needs and hence are people favourites. They are also quite inexpensive and can give you a chance of changing, switching or experimenting with different fragrances at a lower budget.

Eau Fraiche

Strength: 1% – 3%
Longevity: Upto 1 hour

Eau Fraiche is the least strong category of fragrances with a fragrance concentration of only 1 to 3% that can last up to 1 hour. They are usually cheaper than EDTs and EDPs and cater to the audience of rich taste but thin budgets. However, Eau Fraiche is sometimes kept near the sink for quick refreshing moments while you’re freshening up.
