#BeatTheHeat: Summer Drinks To Give You That Refreshing Glow Inside And Out

Summers can take a toll on anyone and one of the best ways to beat the heat is a cool refreshing drink. So, drink up! Not only do the summer drinks look fashionably good but they are also hydrating, satisfying, cleansing and healthy. They’re good for your body, skin and hair!

Summer heat and dehydration can actually make your skin feel exhausted. Whenever I feel dehydrated and my skin starts to look dull, I make it a point to make myself a quick lemon and ginger detox drink. I instantly feel refreshed and energized.

The reason why I recommend you to try a detox drink and other summer drinks is because they cleanse your body, increase your energy levels, improve digestion, aid in weight loss and hydrate and improves your skin’s texture. Plus, if you already have the ingredients lying around in your kitchen, you can make yourself a summer drink in minutes!

Here are a few of my favourite summer drink recipes I’d like to share with you. Trust me, these non-alcoholic drinks will give you that glow and make you feel refreshed from the inside out.

Detox Summer Drinks For Healthy Skin

Detoxing from time to time is a good practice and with the food and lifestyle we follow these days, it’s rather a necessity. So I make sure I’m detoxing my body at least once a month. Not only do detox drinks keep my body hydrated and skin glowing but they also help me when I’m trying to lose a few inches. If you’re looking for similar benefits, go ahead, raise your glasses and drink up!

1. Lemon & Ginger

The first thing I do when I wake up is to drink a tall glass of lemon and ginger juice. It’s not only improved my metabolism, but I feel alert and calm at the same time too. The ascorbic acid in lemon juice aids in cleansing and helps you burn calories faster after working out. Simply just squeeze the juice of 1 lemon and grate some ginger. Mix both ingredients well and then pour some warm water in the tumbler. Stir well and drink up.

2. Green Tea & Turmeric Go Hand In Hand

Please don’t drink this when it’s warm. You have to have it when it’s chilled! As you know, green tea has antioxidants and turmeric is packed with anti-inflammatory properties. If you have any infection in your digestive tract, this drink will cure it. Take some green tea, add a spoon of turmeric powder and stir well. Place the drink in the refrigerator. Once it has cooled down, you can drink it.

3. It’s Raining Greens!

Veggies are loaded with minerals, iron, vitamins and nutrients. Hence, it’s only obvious that I recommend you to try a drink out. Spinach, cucumber, celery, green apples, lemon juice, mint leaves, are your ingredients! All you’ve got to do is keep blending.

4. How About Apple & Beetroot?

Apples are sweet and beetroots taste bitter and have an earthy odour to it! Both ingredients are rich in minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Simply cut these two into fine pieces and throw them into a blender. Add water after. The mix should have a reddish colour to it. Garnish with mint leaves after. You must try this healthy summer drink.

5. Go Citrus This Summer

A big shout out to lemons and oranges for contributing to the body’s health. Both contain vitamin C and boost your metabolic rate. They help wash away the toxins from the body and reduce bloating. In a large water jug, toss a few orange and lemon slices. Slice a cucumber and add that to the mix too. You can drizzle a few drops of honey for taste.

6. Yummy Watermelons & Strawberries

I don’t know about you, but watermelons and strawberries are my favourite fruits! They’re so yummy and juicy to eat. I love them because they keep both my skin and body hydrated and nourished. They help lower blood pressure, relieve sore muscles and improve your mood. You need to make a thick paste of mashed watermelon cubes, strawberry pulp and mint leaves. Add water to the mix and drink up!

7. Mango Juice & Ginger Flakes To The Rescue

Increasing your libido like a pro, boosting memory and improving metabolism is what a mango is capable of doing. When mango pulp and ginger come together, you know that your body is going to be in for a treat! Mix mango pulp with water and sprinkle some ginger flakes over it.

8. Good Old Cucumber Water

On a hot, summer day, don’t drink soda, but choose cucumber water instead. They’re the best, I tell you! They freshen your breath, hydrate your skin, and protect your brain’s health. Slice two cucumbers and leave them to soak in a jug filled with water. Drink after an hour.

9. For The Love of Oranges & Pineapples

If you’re looking for a drink that will speed up your metabolism, supply you with vitamins, keep you energised and happy, you’re probably going to enjoy sipping on orange and pineapple juice. Mix a cup of orange juice with a ½ cup of pineapple juice and a bit of water. And just like that, you’re done!

Homemade Drinks For Glowing Skin

Summer parties are best thrown at home. I can relax, be comfortable in my own space and hang out with my best friends at the same time. Nothing beats that. But of course, I do prefer some interesting and easy-to-find party yet unique flavours for my drinks. And it’s even better if I can make my drinks at home. It makes me the perfect host of the season. So are you in the party mood yet? Well, then here are a few easy-peasy ideas.

10. Punch Up The Watermelon!

This is the simplest punch you can make. All you need is watermelon and seltzer for this one. I make the watermelon puree in the juicer and add the carbonated water to it. At times I add mango juice to it, just to add sweetness and fun-flavour. I do serve it with a topping of mint leaves. It tastes like summer in a glass!

11. Have A Berry-Licious Day With Mixed Berry and Basil Sangria By the Glass

For this berry-berry tasty drink, I use blueberries, grapes, strawberries, blackcurrant, white wine, basil leaves, seltzer and white grape juice. However, I prefer making ice cubes out of half-cut berries and white grape juice and add them to wine and seltzer half an hour before consuming but you can also mix the ingredients together in a jar and leave them in for infusion for a couple of hours.

12. Go Classy With The Lady Lavender’s Mocktail

Summers and the fragrance of lavender is a pleasant combination. For this drink, I use lavender syrup, grapefruit juice and basil. It looks attractive, fancy and tastes like drops of heaven. Serve it chilled and your friends will love it!

Lemon-Based Summer Drinks

Lemon is my forever-favourite flavour, to be honest. It’s a classic, it complements all seasons and it makes everything tastier and healthier, especially summer drinks. Here are a few lemon-based summer drinks that I absolutely love!

13. Some Twist & Tang – Blackberry Lemon Fizz

For blackberry lemon fizz I boil water and sugar together until the sugar is dissolved. While it cools down, I add some smashed blackberries to the glass. Later I add the syrup, sparkling water and mint leaves to the drink. Just put in some ice and voila! Twisty-tangy drink is ready to be served.

14. Ready For A Sparkling Day With Citrus Pineapple Punch?

In my pineapple punch, I like to add as many citrus fruits as I can – orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice, mandarin juice and pineapple juice. I mix the juices in the sparkling water and add sugar to taste. Later, I add mint leaves to the drink and leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours which allows the mint leaves to get infused in it.

15. Watermelon Lemonade Slush? Yes, Please!

I usually fall for drinks that have contrasting tastes like sweet and sour or sweet and spicy. That’s exactly why watermelon lemonade slush is one of my favourites. Watermelon makes the drink naturally sweet while lemon adds the tang. As seasonal watermelons are really sweet, I also add some tangerine juice to balance the tangy taste of it.

I can’t wait to prepare and serve these summer drinks at my next house party. Which one of these is your favourite?
