Post Party Detox: The Pretty Skin Drink Menu

I’m guessing last night didn’t end early for you. Come to think of it, loading up on canapes along with rum refills weren’t the healthiest of your choices, even though I am sure it was totally worth it! So I thought, as your friend from far off, I’d help you detox and start the new year by making better health choices. Here’s a list of liquid miracles that are great to recharge and revamp your regime and also help you get that super glow. Bonus: they’re as healthy as they come!

Water: No surprises there, but drinking 8-10 glasses of water helps you stay hydrated which is great for your skin and your overall health. Plus point: it helps maintain the elasticity of your skin and give it a good bounce. If it’s a task, make most of apps like iDrated and Drink Tracker.

Kale Juice: A powerhouse of Vitamins A and C, Kale is synonymous with glowing skin (and good health). Vitamin A (found in most retinol creams) helps get rid of dull skin and promotes cell growth; while vitamin C is a potent skin brightener found in most serums. Make some at home or try Raw Pressery Cold Pressed Juice.

Soy Milk: Made from soybeans, soy milk is a rich source of protein, and also has isoflavones that help protect and build skin’s own collagen (a building block of beautiful skin). “Since it mimics artificial oestrogen, a cup of soymilk is enough in a day,”  advises Dr. Apratim Goel, Dermatologist, Cutis Skin Solutions, Mumbai. Dilute ½ cup soy milk with water to start out and then have it as is.

Cucumber-infused water: Cucumbers are 95% water and are a great way to stay hydrated through the day without the extra calories. They’re also rich in magnesium and potassium “that help maintain the pH balance of your skin and also decrease inflammation,” says Dr. Apratim Goel, Dermatologist, Cutis Skin Solutions, Mumbai. Add 1 cucumber (sliced), 2 lemons and 10-12 mint leaves to 2 litres of water. Drink through the day. Mix it up with the help of Steelo Infuser Bottle.

Pomegranate Juice: With twice the number of catechins and polyphenols than green tea, pomegranate juice is a boost for fibroblasts (cells under your skin) that actually produce collagen. “Pomegranate also helps firm up and brighten skin,” says Goel. Have it with a dash of chia seeds or try a pomegranate-grapefruit-beetroot smoothie. Add ½ cup pomegranate, ½ cup beets and 1 grapefruit to a blender with ice. Blend. Strain. Drink.
