This South Indian Magazine Just Put A Breastfeeding Woman On Its Cover!

Every mother goes through this natural process of breastfeeding after giving birth. So what’s the big deal? Maybe our overtly sexual society cannot accept the fact that breasts are not an object, instead a medium of nourishment for a newborn baby. But in a country like India, where the length of your kurti is directly proportionate to your values, is there space for this mindset to change? Well, changes are happening and we couldn’t be prouder. One of Kerala’s leading magazines, Grihalakshmi, decided to break the taboo that surrounds breastfeeding in public. They have introduced their campaign with the image of a woman breastfeeding on the cover. The model is actress Gilu Joseph. The headline of the magazine reads – Mothers tell Kerala, “please don’t stare, we need to breastfeed.”

Of course, the model in the image has all the makings of a wife, read sindoor and magalsutra. But this is a step in the right direction, a welcomed change. The issue of breastfeeding, however, has been talked about quite a few times. There are other celebrities who posted pictures of themselves breastfeeding, taking matters into their own hands.
