This MUA Has Coined A New Term, & It’s Called ‘Back Combing’ (Your Lashes)

Most of us have a track record of backcombing our hair to create the noughties’ puff (alias pouf) for school. I know I’m guilty. Though I cannot say I pulled it off at all, that’s my only experience with the concept of ‘backcombing’. When Instagram spotlighted a trend that had someone backcombing their lashes, I was stumped. Because, what? How do you start to backcomb the hair growing out of your eyelids without brutalising your eyes? Now — if your hands are ever-quivering, you might want to sit this one out because I don’t want anyone’s blood on my hands. Okay, no. I’m just exaggerating for effect. But there’s a way to endow your lashes with an insane amount of volume, and this reel explains how to do it via backcombing. It takes about 30 seconds to execute, and it’s possibly even better than Selena Gomez’s hack for long lashes. Yeah.

This Hack Is Your Key To Flutter-Ready Lashes

This technique is poised to endow your lashes with more volume than you’ve ever known. Scortezz says that it builds a base of mascara right at the root of your lashes. He begins the hack by tilting his head back ever so slightly. He pulls his eyelid upward while looking straight into a mirror, and slides the brush downward from the tip to the root of the lashes. Repeat it once more. The next step involves brushing the lashes from root to tip — the opposite of what you just did.

He brushes the lashes in a zig-zag motion, and that’s the end of the hack. The difference between backcombed and non-backcombed lashes is extremely evident.

While many glossed over the before-after difference, others said that they’ve been doing this for years. Scortezz says that the technique requires a little practice to perfect. Since you’re combing your lashes backwards — something most of us have never tried — make sure you’re being careful while you’re at it. Though we’d do almost anything for flutter-ready lashes, you really don’t want to poke your eyes.
