5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Book A Salon Appointment During COVID Times

Without a doubt, the lockdown is an effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, it has taken a toll on businesses, mental health and daily life in general. In India, the lockdown began in March and things have slowly gotten better with time. Though movie halls, bars and colleges continue to remain shut, in most parts of the country, grocery shops, malls and beauty salons have opened up.

Speaking of the latter, while many beauty salons have started their services, there have been new rules put in place. For instance, pre-booking a salon appointment is mandatory now. Depending on the size of the salon, only a limited number of customers may be allowed. Beauticians and hairdressers are required to wear proper gears at all times and sanitize their beauty tools after every use. Most beauty salons in India will also check your temperature and sanitize you and your belongings before entering in. While all of these measures sound extreme, it cannot be denied that it has become a part of our reality. As long as you practice social distancing, sanitize your hands often and adapt with caution, you should be fine.

5 Important Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Book A Salon Appointment

The more questions you ask, the better!

1. Do I Really Need That Beauty Treatment?

Beauty treatments have become a luxury today. A few months ago, we would spend hours indulging in all sorts of services like manicures, pedicures, waxing, threading, hair colouring, head massages – the list goes on. However, the lockdown has taught us that many of these beauty treatments can be done at home. Moreover, we don’t even need most of these anymore! Unless something extreme like a DIY hair colouring sesh gone wrong or a broken nail that’s gotten infected with time happens, should you book that salon appointment. With the COVID-19 cases rising by the day, it’s safer to stay at home and step out only when things get better.

2. Am I Prepared To Visit The Beauty Salon?

Good hygiene is a two-way street. Just how the beauty salon is doing its part to ensure your safety, you must do the same for them. Even though some salons offer you masks and sanitizers on arrival, carry your own mask and your own sanitizer bottle just in case they don’t.

3. Have I Done My Research On The Salon?

Your research involves calling up the salon and learning more about their services during COVID-19 times. Ask them questions like ‘How many clients do they take per session?’, ‘Do the employees wear proper gears and sanitize the beauty tools after every use?’, ‘Will they provide you with fresh masks, towels and capes at the salon?’, ‘Do employees get their temperature checked before coming to work?’, ‘Digital or cash – what is the preferred mode of payment?’. The answers to these questions are important.

4. Do I Feel Confident Stepping Out After Recovering From COVID-19?

If you’ve tested positive for COVID-19 in past and have recovered from it, you might want to be more cautious about your own health. This virus is new and our knowledge about it is limited. There is no guarantee that should you get coronavirus once, you can’ get it again. There is yet no concrete evidence about getting infected twice, but why take the risk, right?

5. Should I Be Spending Money During Such Uncertain Times?

When they say, “save for a rainy day” they were talking about this time. Money is tight during COVID-19 times and budgeting is important. Beauty treatments are a luxury at this moment. Whether you need to get them done or not, that’s a call for you to take.

None of these questions is intended to cause fear, panic or discourage you from visiting a beauty salon. You certainly can, however, be cautious and aware of your actions.
