Beauty School: 5 Reasons You Should Include Clay Masks In Your Skincare Routine

Finding the right face pack that agrees with your skin type is like attempting to find a needle in a haystack. A billion products to choose from, so little time. You don’t have to worry about that with clay masks though. They benefit all skin types! Clay masks are usually made from ingredients such as bentonite, hectorite, kaolin, kieselguhr and fuller’s earth. Also, did you know that clay masks aren’t a new beauty invention? They’ve been around since ancient times! They rose to fame in the 1920s and later became a beauty trend everyone wanted to try. They not only help to purify and rejuvenate the skin, but also to unclog the pores and keep them squeaky clean. Now that you know what a clay mask is, let me tell you how to use one.

How To Apply A Clay Mask

If you’re going to treat yourself, you might as well learn how to do it right!

1. Cleanse Your Skin

The first thing you want to do before applying a clay mask is to start with a clean base. Water and a good cleanser are your best friends. They help to remove any dirt, makeup residue or oil that’s present on the surface of your skin. I think you’ll love the one I’ve recommended. Care to try?

2. Apply The Clay Mask

Remember ladies, less is more. Apply a thin layer of product to your face. To spread the mask all over your face, you can either use your fingers or a face mask brush. The latter makes the application a smoother, cleaner and simpler process. The clay mask that I’ve recommended will literally make your complexion ‘brighter than sunshine’. It has all the good stuff in it like honey, oat milk, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and argan oil. You’ve got to try it to believe it.

3. Wait It Out

For a good 10-15 minutes, you do nothing, but spend some quality time with yourself. While the mask is doing its job, you can read a book, cook yourself some yum breakfast, watch TV, paint your nails, listen to music – It’s all about self-care, baby!

4. Rinse Time!

The moment your clay mask dries up, it starts to harden and feel super firm on the skin. That’s when you should grab a wet washcloth and wipe the clay mask off. If you want to gently exfoliate your skin while rinsing the mask off, take some warm water on your palms and massage your skin in circular motions. Once you’ve removed the clay mask, gently pat dry your skin.

5. Apply A Moisturiser

About right now, your skin should feel squeaky clean, soft and rejuvenated. Apply a moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. Pick a product that has skin balancing properties, reduces excess sebum production and improves skin’s texture. The one I’ve recommended is deeply nourishing and perfect for people with dull, dry skin.

This allows the skin tissue to receive more oxygen and feel rejuvenated. When you use a clay mask, you will notice that your face begins to tighten as soon as the clay mask dries up. The moment you wash the mask off, your skin will start to look cleaner and brighter. That’s the magic of using clay masks!

Have you ever wondered why your skin produces sebum? It does so to protect and moisturise your skin. However, when your immune system gets over-activate, the skin will overproduce sebum. There are a variety of reasons why this happens. Stress, infection, poor lifestyle choices and diet could be some of them. Clay masks help to soak up the excess sebum and clean the pores by pulling out any dirt or bacteria stuck in them.

Bye Dead Skin Cells!

They may not be visible to the naked eye, but dead skin cells are one of the reasons why your skin has a tough time breathing in the first place. If you don’t get rid of them, you could deal with acne, pimples and breakouts later. Hence, it’s important to befriend clay masks.

Since it removes oil, dirt and bacteria from the pores, you will eventually be left with younger, tighter and healthier-looking skin.

The Glow Is Back!

The reason why your skin looks tired and dull most of the times is that it lacks exfoliation and proper skin maintenance. You can change your skin’s fate by applying a clay mask. You need to do it twice a week for 10 minutes for a brighter complexion.

Those are just a few strong reasons why you should be including clay masks in your skincare routine. Happy maskin’!
