Forget Beer Yoga, BDSM Yoga Is Now A Thing!

I happened to have a great start to my day by receiving a mind-boggling piece of news. We have always been the ones to give you cool information. Like remember the time we talked about tantric sex? Or those awesome tricks to make vanilla sex great again? Or how about those kamasutra positions we got going for you? Which is why have a little trust in me when I tell you, your day is just about to get better!

Did you know that after dog yoga and beer yoga, now we have *drumroll* BDSM yoga! That’s right, ladies!

1 BDSM yoga

So what is it, really?

Scrolling through the internet led me to an article on Broadly where the writer heads to a BDSM yoga class in Berlin, wearing a latex suit. And I was intrigued to say the least. I mean it’s BDSM yoga, can you blame me? The basic idea behind BDSM yoga is to increase your mind’s focus on your body. And that is especially helped by the kind of BDSM attire that you are wearing. In fact, a study in Austin, Texas has revealed that BDSM in itself “alters blood flow in the brain, which leads to an altered state of consciousness similar to a ‘runner’s high’ or yoga.”

Is it like, kinky yoga?

On the kinkiness level, it is not that high. In fact, it might be termed more intimate than kinky. The class involves more eased out versions of the Japanese Butoh and Shibari. The basic concept is to train your mind to fight anxiety. For example with Shibari, where there is rope bondage involved, if you are not careful about focussing on your breathing and create a calm space in your mind, you could suffocate, freak out and even die. Yeah, not kinky at all now, is it?

2 BDSM yoga

Should you try it?

Let’s start by saying that all my internet research has not led me to a BDSM yoga class in India. About which I am genuinely not surprised. BDSM is more than what meets the eye. It’s about deriving pleasure from an extreme source. Some thrive in an environment like that and others don’t. Although sexuality and spirituality are increasingly coming together, it is always better to have an informed decision about things that are completely outside our comfort zone. However, it is always still great to equip yourself with new information right? Which is why it seemed perfect to add a little bit of kinky BDSM yoga to your day! *wink*
