We may learn a lot of lessons as we progress through life, but the ones we can learn from our grandmothers will always be incomparable. They’ve lived life much more than we have and seen things far longer than we can imagine! Here are a few valuable life lessons for every 20 something from her grandma!
1. Forgive people. Even those who hurt you.
Because holding on to anger and resentment towards someone else will do no one but you harm. It will constantly hurt you if you’re the one whose mind it's on. So let it go. Don’t forget what someone is capable of doing and learn your lesson from it, but don’t hold a grudge.
2. Fall in love. But when you do, make sure you keep your eyes open too!
Don’t be blinded by your love for anyone. Yes, love with an open heart and have faith in the people you choose to love, but keep your eyes open. Don’t let everything they do just pass by easily. Pick your battles, and also what you choose to overlook.
3. Marry for the right reasons
Marry someone who loves and respects you. Who shares the same values and principles as you. Marrying someone for anything but for who they are as a person will be a marriage that will be hard to sustain. Marry someone you connect with and can be friends with forever. Someone who will be your companion for life.
4. Take care of yourself at every point in life!
Dress up every day. Not for anyone, but for yourself. Exercise every day and eat right. Drink plenty of water and take time out just for yourself every now and then. Nothing will be as important as your health in the long run.
5. Educate yourself as much as you can
There is no such thing as “too educated”. Even if you don’t want to get one degree after the other, carry on learning. Read books, watch the news, watch informative shows. Keep yourself updated and aware. It will take you a long way in life.
6. Be ambitious, but know that your family is very important.
You must have career goals and targets you want to achieve. But don’t lose track of the people who will help you get there. Your family will be always be there for you and love you. So understand their importance and take time out for them no matter how busy you get in life.
7. Ask for help when you need it.
There is no shame in asking for help. Put your ego aside and just ask when you need it. It only makes life simpler and also gives you clarity about the people who are really there for you. So take the opportunity and make the most of it.
8. Never lose your humility
Or your respect for other people. You may achieve a lot and even become famous one day. But remember all the people who were there for you when you were struggling to make your way up. Remember that no human being is bigger or smaller than the other. We're all equals.
