The ONLY Guide You Need To Manage Your Sweat This Summer

The ONLY Guide You Need To Manage Your Sweat This Summer

I don’t really believe people who say they don’t sweat. Like what do you mean you don’t stain your white shirt every time you’re travelling from the metro to the door of your house? You’re telling me your foundation stays on even at 42 ºC? That you re-wear your T-shirts at least twice in the summer? Don’t lie to me!

It’s not enough that mercury is in retrograde and we’re fighting for our lives. The inevitable battle against summer sweat has begun. It’s a season where the glow of a skincare routine quickly turns into an oily mess by noon. The thought of wearing anything but breathable fabrics becomes unimaginable. So if you’ve ever felt like staying dry in the heat is a solo journey, let me assure you, you’re not alone.

There are a few heroes in the throws of the internet that promise to curb your sweat and help you get through this season without making you look like a (hot) mess.

For Underarm Sweat

The first line of defense in the fight against underarm sweat is a good antiperspirant. A deodorant merely masks the odour; an antiperspirant on the other hand tackles the issue at its source by blocking sweat ducts. Why? Well, antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride, a metallic salt found in most over-the-counter options to effectively block your ducts. With consistent use, you’ll find yourself reaching for it less frequently, yet enjoying its drying benefits.

For Your Neck & Chest

Now I know sweat is not just centralised to your underarms. When it comes to your neck and chest, your best friend is body powders. I know you hated being slathered in powder as young kids during the summer months, I did too – who would have known my mom knew what she was doing?

Body powders not only absorb sweat but also keep your skin feeling smooth, and smelling fresh. They might not have the same sweat-blocking prowess as their antiperspirant friend but their gentleness on the skin makes them a great addition to your summer collection. Just make sure you blend it well with your skin.

For The Backs Of Your Knees & Inside Of Your Elbows

Then there are the unsung heroes of summer skincare: cooling and anti-sweat wipes. I don’t normally advocate for wipes but these ones offer a quick, refreshing cleanse when a shower isn’t on the immediate horizon. Stash them in your bag for a swift cool-down, perfect for post-workout or a mid-day refresh.

For Your Scalp

Let’s not forget the crown: your hair. Excess sweat can turn any hair day into a bad hair day by adding unwanted grease and limpness. My go-to is a dry shampoo for a quick fix – it absorbs oil, sweat, and odour, revitalising your locks and lifting your roots. The only thing to remember is that too much dry shampoo can cause a lot of buildup, so make sure to use a clarifying shampoo once in a while.

Knowing When to Seek Professional Help

Despite these over-the-counter options, excessive sweating might be a symptom rather than the problem itself. If you find that your sweating impairs daily life or seems out of the ordinary, it’s time to consult a doctor. A dermatologist can offer diagnostic insight and discuss other treatments that might be right for you!

This summer, arm yourself with these sweat-busting essentials and step into the sunshine, ready to enjoy everything the season has to offer!
