Up until now, sarees and Shilpa Shetty, for me, were more-or-less synonymous with each other. Pardon the melodrama but what I chanced upon today has kind of ripped my fashion-girl world apart.
Nope, I never thought I'd ever write this story, but Shilpa Shetty Kundra has unfortunately broken her winning saree streak yesterday. The 'saree queen', as we'd titled her, has faltered and here's how:
Shilpa Shetty chose an ensemble by Shantanu & Nikhil, one of the biggest designer duos in India, to wear to an event in Abu Dhabi yesterday. Props to her for taking a chance with this but the outcome was far from desirable.
As you can see, Shilpa is wearing the new and on-trend saree style, created with a dupatta and pants. While we love the draping style and this edgy version of a traditional saree, we think this look definitely went overboard.
What we like: the blouse and the dupatta. That's about it.
What we don't like (at all) and why not:
There's a fine line between 'hot' and 'hot mess' and the mesh leggings pushed Shilpa Shetty over the line with this saree. I mean, those leggings belong in the gym, not at a gala. Bad choice, Sanjana Batra.
We love belts with sarees - it's one of the best ways to add a more modern touch to one. However, corset belts should be out of the question now. They were over a while ago, but what made us develop more resolve to this vow is this particular one. It does nothing for your look, Shilpa. Ditch it, please.
Bottom line: there's a LOT going on. Like they say, 'too many details spoil the OOTD' - the printed dupatta, the mesh panel leggings, the intricate earrings, the statement belt. In this case, this saree is not even a remote version of one, anymore. That's where Shilpa lost us.
We have faith in you, though, Mrs Kundra. Better luck next time!
