Actress Sameera Reddy, who made her Bollywood debut with Sohail Khan's Maine Dil Tujhko Diya and was last seen in Tezz, is expecting her second baby with hubby Akshai Varde. She was blessed with a baby boy in 2015, after which she bid goodbye to the industry. Although the actress got out of the limelight, she continues to be pretty active on social media. In a recent post, Sameera was flaunting her baby bump and captioned the picture, "Halfway there! #baby #bump can’t wait to meet you!"
Sameera got good wishes for her second baby in abundance, but she was also trolled by netizens over her pregnancy weight. This is not a new phenomenon. Celebrities always get the short end of the stick when it comes to body shaming. Sameera didn't take it lying down and shut down her trollers. In a recent interview, she said, "I want to ask trollers: ‘Was your mom hot, when you came out?’ It’s shameful. Pregnancy is such a natural process. It’s so beautiful. It took me time to (lose weight) with the first baby. Maybe it’ll take me time with the second baby. But what’s most important is to embrace yourself. And to all trolls: Say what you want guys, I think I have a superpower, I’m giving a birth to a baby."
The actress was unfazed by the trolls and she called them out for comparing her to other celebrities. "There are sexy ones like Kareena Kapoor who’s come out looking fully hot, and there are people like me who take time (to get back in shape),” she said. She further got candid about her first pregnancy and admitted that she was conscious about her body image. "In my first pregnancy, I was very shy and thought about a lot of things but now I feel it’s very different. I remember I used to cover up a lot during the first pregnancy. Mow I’m like bring it on. I can also be hot when I’m pregnant. So it’s just a matter of mindset."
Sameera is not the only actress who got trolled for her pregnancy weight. Neha Dhupia was fat-shamed over social media for not losing her post-pregnancy weight fast enough. She was subjected to spiteful comments, but she gave a befitting reply to all the disparagers. "I don’t owe anyone an explanation because fat-shaming like this doesn’t bother me one bit. But I do want to address this as a larger problem because fat-shaming needs to stop for EVERYONE not just celebs. As a new mom, I want to be fit, healthy and energetic for my daughter... ’Fitness’ is a priority and not ‘fitting into’ society’s standards regarding looks. And I hope in the future people are kinder to each other while making such vapid and vile comments... Be Kind. It’s chaos out there."
Sameera seems to be enjoying her journey as a mother, and the way in which she is handling all her haters makes us want to say, more power to you!
