“What were they even thinking? How did they come up with this? Why?”
These are just a few thoughts that crossed our minds while watching Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. We may have different views about it, but here’s something that no one can deny—it’s a show like no other. Alright, we agree that it is a little cringy and mindless like almost every other reality show in India. But we also have to admit that it is probably the only Indian series that gives us a sneak peek into the B-town celebs’ lives. I mean, to watch four Bollywood wives spill some real-life tea? Now that’s something we haven’t seen before.
And, this brings us back to our OG question—how did they come up with this? What made Karan Johar think that it would be a fun idea to cast Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan, Neelam Kothari, and Bhavana Panday together on a show? Believe it or not, KJo thought of this while on a flight to Delhi.
The director revealed that he and the four ladies were on their way to attend a memorial service when the idea hit him. During a Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives reunion on Clubhouse, he said, “These four ladies are very special to me and have been for nearly two-and-a-half decades. But I want to tell you, the origin of this show happened on a flight. We took a flight to Delhi, we were actually going for a condolence meeting. One of our friends lost their father. We were on a flight to Delhi and that’s when I realised, and I have always known it, that these four women are completely crazy.”
We have to give it KJo for guessing it right that his show with these four women would become the talk of the town. He added, “We were discussing our attires. It was inappropriate and it was idiotic and it was so much fun that I said that the four of them have to be on a show.”
Thank god they were! Because we now can’t imagine our lives without all the goss that the fab wives shared with us. Karan added, “But I really thought that they need to be on camera because I thought that barring Neelam, who is a bona fide star and has faced the camera for 40 films, the other three were technically virgins to the camera and I think they were naturals.”
Oh BTW, we may get to watch some new faces along with the old ones in its second instalment. And before you say that you aren’t sure if you will binge-watch the upcoming season that’s releasing soon, save it! We know you’re lying, because it’s the one show that we all love to hate-watch. Agree?
