Ever since we found out that Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda will be making their acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s Bollywood adaptation of The Archies comics, we had been super excited to get all the juicy deets about the venture. And today seems to be our lucky day! Zoya recently spilled the beans about the movie and it all sounds hella exciting.
In a conversation with the CEO of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater, Zoya opened up about her decision to adapt the series. “It’s been an absolute honour to be asked to make an Indian adaptation and the first-ever film for this very iconic Archies franchise. This is a surreal experience since Archie Comics was a part of my childhood,” shared the filmmaker.
Zoya also talked about the backlash the film’s teaser received and how netizens called it “unrelatable” and “too ‘western”. She said, “We have set it in the Anglo-Indian community in India and can’t wait to transport you to the magical, fictional town of Riverdale”
NGL, we totally agree with Zoya here! Cinema is medium of expression and every filmmaker should get the space to tell a story in whatever way that works for their vision.

In May, The Archies makers shared the teaser of the movie and wrote, “The sun is out, the news is out! Come meet your new friends. Presenting to you the cast of The Archies, directed by the fantastic Zoya Akhtar.”

We gotta say we were really impressed by the teaser— aesthetic was on point, and we loved the retro theme. Moreover, the music has only left us wanting more.
The movie stars Suhana as Veronica, Khushi as Betty, and Agastya as Archies. Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda, and Vedang Raina are also a part of the cast.
TBH, after hearing Zoya’s take on the films, we all can’t wait for the film to drop online ASAP! Here’s hoping the production house gives us a release date soon. Until then, we’ll be on the lookout for more juicy deets.
