Is That For Real? ‘Buckets Of Sweat’ Gush Out As Medic On Duty Removes Her PPE Kit

In the fight against the deadly coronavirus, doctors, nurses and other medical assistants are the frontline warriors. They have been working tirelessly for over six months in order to contain the novel virus without worrying about the risk they are exposed to. The Indian Medical Association recently stated that nearly 200 Indian doctors have succumbed to COVID-19 so far.

We all know that the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the first and most crucial line of defence for our healthcare workers, but it’s not easy wearing one. From rashes to difficulty in breathing, only a medical practitioner knows the challenges of wearing the kit for long hours. Recently, a video of a female health worker, reportedly from China, went viral. It showed her removing the hazmat suit after having worn it for hours. What followed was a bucket full of sweat gushing out of the medic’s PPE kit. Yep, you read that right.

In the video, the woman can be seen sitting on a chair while removing the blue plastic covers on her shoes. She then pulls up the trousers of her PPE kit and streams of what appears as sweat pour out.

Reportedly, the footage is from Urumqi, the regional capital of Xinjiang in north-western China and was filmed on August 8 when the medic took a short break. The clip has gone viral, however, we cannot verify its authenticity.

Besides this, an image, reportedly of a doctor’s hand, went viral on Twitter. The image, shared by IAS officer Awanish Sharan, showed wrinkled hands of the doctor after a 10-hour shift in PPE kit.

Back in March, a nurse from Tuscany, Italy also took to her Instagram handle to share the picture of her bruised face, which was a result of wearing protective gear. She wrote, “I am physically tired because the protective devices are bad, the lab coat makes you sweat and once dressed I can no longer go to the bathroom or drink for six hours”.

Even after being in such a difficult situation, the health workers, who are being called ‘heroes’, have never failed to maintain a positive mindset. Recently, Devansh Yadav, a former doctor at AIIMS, shared some pictures of the doctors appointed at the COVID centres in Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh. In the pictures, they can be seen displaying their smiling pictures on their PPE kits. According to them, showing the face behind the mask helps in the counselling of the patients in distress.

Not only this, but Dr Richa Negi from Mumbai also took to her Instagram handle on Doctors Day (July 4) to wish her fellow doctors, asking them to stay positive. Clad in her PPE kit, she danced on the song Garmi and left many amused. Take a look:

Doctors are our real heroes in this fight against the deadliest virus that our generation has witnessed. Let’s do our bit by taking necessary precautions and stepping out only if absolutely necessary.
