On Saturday morning, India woke up to a dark cloud when the Vikram lander of Chandrayaan 2 lost communication with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). However, many including PM Narendra Modi applauded the effort made by the team. The ISRO chief couldn’t control his tears after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s encouraging speech in Bengaluru and broke down soon after. In a video that went viral, the Prime Minister was seen consoling the ISRO chief.
However, hope isn’t lost yet! According to recent reports, Vikram lander has been located and even though it didn’t have a soft landing as planned, it has reached the lunar surface. “Yes, we have located the lander on the lunar surface. It must have been a hard-landing,” Dr Sivan told PTI.
“Orbiter has clicked a thermal image of Lander. But there is no communication yet. We are trying to have contact. It will be communicated soon,” he further told ANI.
Following this announcement, Twitter rejoiced in the fact that this made India one of the first nations to land near the south pole of the moon and flooded the internet with memes. However, ISRO is yet to establish communication with Vikram lander.

Chandrayaan 2 has been termed as the ‘most complex mission ever undertaken by ISRO’, which is why this has been regarded as a feat for India. PM Modi encouraged the team “I see the disappointment on your faces. There is no need to get dejected. We have learnt a lot,” he said. “These are moments to be courageous, and courageous we will be! We remain hopeful and will continue working hard on our space programme,” he added while talking to the great minds behind Chandrayaan 2.
