Remember how we were made to believe that the main cast of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was not allowed to date each other? Well, we do not know if the rumour was true but we do know the probable reason. It’s quite simple actually—don’t mix business with pleasure. Actors often refuse or find it uncomfortable to work with their former flames. And then, the makers are left with no choice but to replace them on the show. In fact, not just Hollywood, replacing cast members has been a very common practice in B-town as well. It was just recently when Kartik Aaryan was shockingly ousted from two of his upcoming movies.
Talking of replacements, it’s no secret that our TV shows are notorious for replacing actors out of the blue (read unexplainable on-screen plastic surgeries). I mean, one day we knew Amar Upadhyay as Mihir in the iconic show Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and the next day it was Ronit Roy. Did anyone see it coming? Nope!
In case you are wondering, the former actor left because he wanted to try his luck in Bollywood. Did that info make you nostalgic? Wait till you read about all these famous actors who quit or were replaced from their show suddenly. TBH, it shocked all of us and the reasons why they did what they did will shock you even further!
A lot of times, makers get tired of their actors’ unprofessionalism and other times, their leads get frustrated with their roles. While the show’s plot tries to convince us that their stars look different due to plastic surgery, we ain’t stupid. Here are the real reasons why many TV stars have been replaced from hit daily soaps:
Remember the Gopi bahu who washed her hubby, Ahem’s gadgets with soap and water? Of course, you do. That meme was been quite a rage on the internet recently. BTW, did you notice that the actress was not Devoleena Bhattacharjee but Giaa Manek? Yep, the latter was the OG Gopi who was replaced overnight by the makers. In a scandalous interview, the actress went ahead and accused the producers of giving her a hard time on the show. She said, “I did not leave the show because I wanted to take part in the reality series. My producer was torturing me. So I chose to leave. The buzz that I won’t be allowed to work on any other show is a rumour. No one else should have any problem.”
She was referring to the reality series, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. The maker of SNS believed that her stint on the dance show could tarnish her image as a docile bahu. While Giaa didn’t quit JDJ, she did send a legal notice to her producers for ousting her from the daily soap.
Shilpa Shinde’s replacement on the show, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain was one of the biggest controversies of 2016. We all witnessed the repercussions firsthand when the actress entered Bigg Boss 11 in 2017. She made her intentions of troubling her co-contestant Vikas Gupta quite clear and called it an ‘act of vengeance.’ Apparently, the producers forced her out of the series where she played the role of Bhabhi Ji. On the other hand, Vikas maintained that Shilpa was let go because of her unprofessional demands. To date, both the celebs have not changed their stance.
Did you watch the web series Qubool Hai 2.0 on Zee5? I did because I have been a fan of the show ever since I saw it for the first time on ZeeTV. However, I was quite disappointed when its protagonist Karan Singh Grover was replaced by actor Raqesh Bapat. During a recent interview, KSG explained that he wanted to take a break from TV hence he decided to quit. He said, “Asad is a very heavy character and I needed to break way from playing it every day. When you are being someone like him for more than 12 hours, everyday, you start getting disconnected with the reality. That was my major issue. I think if anyone wants to maintain the standard of creativity, then you cannot stretch it for long. Then it becomes mundane.”
However, according to the grapevine, the actor was replaced because of his unprofessional behaviour. He would often cancel shoots without prior notice and the makers were having a hard time keeping up with him.
Ekta Kapoor is infamous for replacing a lot of actors from her shows. But when Rajeev Khandelwal decided to quit her daily soap Kahiin Toh Hoga, it did not go well with the producer. The actor, who played the Sujal in the series, stated that he was unhappy with his character. According to the grapevine, Rajeev and Ekta left things on a sour note then and patched up quite recently.
He was not the only one who had a fallout with the producer. Bigg Boss 14 contestant Eijaz Khan also left Balaji Telefilms on bad terms when he decided to quit Kavyanjali.
Another actress who had a major fallout with Ekta Kapoor was Smriti Irani. The actress who played Tulsi on the show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was shortly replaced by Gautami Kapoor. However, fans were not ready to accept the change and the producer had to rope in the former lead once again. Currently, the two ladies are on good terms and even share throwback pics with each other on their social media handles.
Wow! NGL, we’re quite scandalised knowing that so much goes on behind the camera. BTW, whose replacement shocked you the most?
