After a two-month air travel ban owing to the coronavirus pandemic, domestic flights resumed on May 25. The resumption, of course, was not free of hiccups. India’s skies sure opened but there was a lot of confusion on the ground.
A lot of chaos and long-queues welcomed passengers as they geared to return to their homes. Amid the confusion, a couple of TV actors also decided to head back home to meet their parents. Practicing social distancing norms and safe air-travel guidelines issued by the authorities, these actors returned to their homes. Here’s a first-hand account of their travels:
The Pavitra Rishta Actor flew from Mumbai to see his mom in Delhi. He shared his whole experience in a video on Instagram. And what we can see from the video is that travelling is not the same anymore. Karan wrote in his caption that Mumbai airport followed all the precautionary measures. He further said he had to go through a thermal screening and that he gave a self-declaration of being in good health on the Aarogya Setu app. “Self-boarding passes from kiosks-7kg hand baggage to be carried in the craft, 8 & above to be checked in -proper social distancing followed even while waiting for the flight and while boarding 5-6 feet gap maintained – PPE kits given by staff at boarding gates (shield and gloves) -but no social distancing while seated in the flight,” Karan wrote in his caption.
He further said as advised by the government, there was no food in the flight and only water was available. “Overhead cabins functional, contrary to popular belief-soothing symphony music playing in the flight (something like titanic before it sank) -unrecoverable air hostess as they looked like doctors and nurses from an ICU,” he added. As soon as Karan reached home, he took a shower on his terrace before meeting his mom.
Actor Himansh spoke about his travel experience in an interview with an online publication. He said, ” I wanted to go home ever since the lockdown was announced, but I could not. I planned to travel via road but I was not sure about the situation on the highway. But then I read that domestic flights were set to resume, and as soon as I got a notification that bookings were open, I booked my tickets. “
The Yaariyan actor said that once he was inside the plane, everything looked the same except no food was available. ” While lavatories were accessible, we were advised against using them. I had booked two seats for myself – the middle and window seats – to minimize contact with anyone. I understand it might seem wasteful but our life is more important,” he said.
Parth was one of the first actors to get on a flight after operations resumed. He shared a video on his Instagram stories and said he looked like a character from Breaking Bad.
Actor Radhika Madan also flew to Delhi from Mumbai to meet her parents. For those who are living away from their families in these unprecedented times, it’s rather difficult to stay calm. When it comes to one’s family, checking on each other on video calls is just not enough, right? Having said that, even though some restrictions have been lifted, we still cannot forget about social distancing. Because the virus is now at its peak and the number of confirmed cases are increasing by the day. We don’t know when is all of this going to get over. What we do know is that we’ll come out of this pandemic stronger than ever before.
