9 Things You Need To Know Before You Try Anal Sex With Him

There comes a time in every couple’s lives when they want to try something new, something fun, something they’ve never tried before. For some it may be sex toys, for others, it could be a new sex position, role play or anal sex. Trying out a new move in bed can be quite exciting, but when it comes to anal sex – there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

Have you ever tried anal sex?

Are you curious about anal but don’t know where to start? Before you try it, have a discussion with your partner so you are prepared to go all-in, mentally and physically. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for the rest.

Talk it out

Anal sex isn’t something you just jump into mid-session. It’s important that both partners are consenting and prepared for it. There are some do’s and don’ts that are recommended before, during and after anal sex so that it’s a pleasurable experience for you both.

Use a condom

Unprotected anal sex leaves you exposed to a wide range of sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, herpes, syphilis, HPV, and hepatitis. It’s important that you use protection before you attempt anal sex, especially if you and your partner haven’t been tested for any sexually transmitted diseases. If you plan to have regular vaginal sex after anal, change the condom to prevent any vaginal infections.

It is not supposed to hurt

Anal penetration is not supposed to hurt. It is not meant to cause you any pain and contrary to what people might think – it’s not going to stretch out your anus and cause incontinence either. The anus stretches during anal sex in the same way that it does to accommodate your bowel moments. It goes right back to its original shape shortly after.

Lubrication is non-negotiable

Your anus does not produce its own lubrication so it’s important that you use a lubricant. A silicone-based lubricant will keep things moving smoothly. A water-based lubricant, on the other hand, tends to dry out quickly and you would need to use a lot more of it while you are in the act. Lubricants like KY Jelly and Durex are easily available in the market online and offline. Don’t shy away from getting your hands on some. In general, stay away from oil-based lubricants like petroleum jelly as they may damage the condom.

Ease into it

Your anus, or to be more specific the sphincter muscles inside your anus are tightly closed. When you try anal sex for the first time, you need to ease into it. Start by relaxing yourself a little bit, have a drink if it makes you feel better. Start with lots of foreplay, ask your partner to lube up his finger or an anal toy and stick it inside, to begin with. Stimulate the area in and around the anus, there are hundreds of nerve endings here. Once you’re comfortable and aroused, your body will relax further making this the perfect time for your partner to lube up and slowly insert his penis inside.

Anal sex may give you an orgasm

Your anus has a lot of nerve endings and when stimulated enough, a lot of women can orgasm through anal sex alone. For women, the perineal and pudendal nerves that connect to your clitoris is stimulated during anal sex leading you to the big O. But don’t worry if it didn’t happen for you. It’s perfectly normal too, just try clitoral stimulation along with anal sex and you’ll have an explosive orgasm in no time.

Hygiene is important

This is probably a query everyone has when you say anal sex. Nobody wants to end up feeling or seeing the faecal matter on them and the best way to avoid this from happening is to clean up well before anal sex. Make sure you have had a recent bowel movement and you clean up the area in and around the anus with water and wet wipes. A diet rich in fibre is proven to make your bowel movements easier and more regular – if you want to avoid pain during anal sex, eat well! If it makes you and your partner feel cleaner, you could even try anal sex in the shower or a bathtub.

You can get pregnant through anal sex

Now just because it isn’t vaginal, doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant. It’s not birth control! Cases of pregnancy with anal sex are rare, but it can happen. Unless you want a little reminder running around 9 months later, use a condom.

Experiment with positions

If you are uncomfortable during anal sex, or it hurts you in any way, stop immediately. You can always try again next time. There are multiple positions you can try so don’t limit yourself to doggy style. From reverse cowgirl, the spoon and even the cross, experiment to find what you like best. Just do a quick google search and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
