We tend to believe that our favourite celebrities lead the perfect lives and are immune to pain and sadness. However, the reality is far away from that. The stardom and fame come at a price and a lot of times, their professional success becomes a reason for stress in their personal relationships. Something similar happened with Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap a few years ago.
Tahira and Ayushmann are childhood sweethearts and their love story is one of the most adorable stories in Bollywood. However, there was a time when they were going through some trouble in paradise. As actors, our stars have to perform intimate scenes on-screen whenever the script demands. But, when Ayushmann delved into such scenes, Tahira felt highly uncomfortable. In fact, it affected Tahira so much that it disturbed her mental health. In a recent interview with an entertainment portal, Tahira revealed, “I have delved deep into the complexes that I had (when Ayushmann started acting). It’s not easy for someone who doesn’t come from a family involved with films because there are women around him all the time, the spotlight’s on him.”
There came a time when all the stress led to Tahira being diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). She explained that the extreme unhappiness that she was experiencing was not really due to the circumstances but her own inner stress and anxiety. However, Tahira admitted that she had a lot to contemplate what she was going through and since then, she has come a long way. She added, “I think I have come a long way and I have spoken about that in the book as well. The kind of impact it had on my mental happiness and physical well-being too. I ended up having IBS, which is irritable bowel syndrome. But the root cause was extreme unhappiness and I feel you know it’s not the circumstances which are unhappy but your own stress and anxiety that accentuates a situation. I needed to undergo a lot of learning. and I have done that. But yes, it was difficult for me to embrace this entire concept of the film industry.”
Tahira has recently published her fourth book, 12 Commandments Of Being A Woman, that released a few weeks ago. Apart from her bedroom secrets, Tahira also revealed another quirky detail in the book that she and Ayushmann used to make out in theatres while watching SRK’s movies!
Tahira’s insecurities rooted after Ayushmann’s first movie, Vicky Donor. Her pregnancy and mood swings also played a huge part in giving fire to her insecurities. She explained, “Vicky Donor se shuru ho gaya tha. I was at home, I was pregnant and looking like a whale. I had gained 20 kilos and every woman goes through the journey. But I kept thinking that I’m looking like this, and my husband is romancing on screen. My reactions were immature but I don’t regret that at all. Yes, I did have these insecurities. It didn’t finish off there. It went on to Nautanki Saala, where he recorded the longest kiss on screen. It was all out in the press and it got to me.”
But as people say, with time, everyone evolves and find their inner peace and confidence. Tahira also found her self-assurance and fresh perspective as time progressed. Talking about her outlook, she said, “I remember watching Andhadhun and telling Sriram sir that I wish the lovemaking scene between Ayushmann and Radhika could have been longer. It seemed too quick and abrupt. So that’s the change I have had. Now, I look at it from an artistic point of view. Today, I’m a filmmaker and I might also need someone to enact out love on screen, regardless of whose husband or boyfriend he is, so I took time to realise that this is okay.”
Well, that was quite some insight! And, more power to Tahira for so candidly accepting her insecurities and taking us through her journey.
