As much as we want to blame the government for the current COVID-19 crisis in India, it also comes down to personal responsibility. The healthcare system is on the verge of crumbling and the pandemic situation gets bleak. At a time like this, it is important that each one of us shoulder the responsibility and steer the country out of this storm. Not too sure about how you can support the nation during the trying time? Here is a list of things that you can do:
Just like change, responsibility also begins at home. Thus, before you go about educating and helping others, it is important that you start at home. Educate your family members about COVID-19 precautions and protocols. Warn them against the fake news on social media and register for vaccination ASAP.
Please pay your house help irrespective of whether or not you are calling them at the house right now. They might not have savings and the entire COVID-19 situation has only made it worse for almost everyone financially. Thus, don’t deduct anything from their salaries and offer financial assistance in case they might be struggling at the moment. Do help them understand what is happening with the current pandemic and get them registered for vaccination.
Right now, vaccination is our best bet against the coronavirus and thus, it is important that everyone gets vaccinated ASAP. If you know someone who is reluctant to get the jab or does not understand the importance, please encourage them to get it as soon as possible.
Currently, there is a barrage of misinformation about the entire COVID-19 situation, vaccination, and safety protocols. This can lead people to take actions that might backfire for them or put them at a risk. Thus, make it a point to correct people each time they share some misinformation. Also, don’t shy away from reaching out to an expert in case you yourself are confused about something.
While the world can do with a little extra kindness right now, don’t shy away from calling out anyone who flouts the COVID-19 protocol. Tell people to wear a mask, and to cover their nose when it’s out. Politely ask people to refrain from making unnecessary visits to your house and call them out when they fail to maintain social distancing protocol.
So many have lost their livelihood during the pandemic. There are also those who have lost earning members of the family. In case, you have been fortunate enough to retain your jobs, please consider supporting and donating for those who are struggling at the moment. You can reach out to a family who might have lost an earring member and support them through this tough time. From paying for their kid’s tuition fee to paying for someone’s medical supplies, please find a way of helping a family that really needs it at the moment. Also, it does not have to be a huge help.
In case you know someone who is sick at the moment or physically incapable of going out and getting their everyday supplies, do it for them. There are so many aged and disabled people who have been struggling during the lockdown. You can help them by doing simple, everyday errands.
Well, the most effective that you can do right now is set an example. Thus, stay at home until it is necessary to go out. And always wear your mask and carry the sanitizer when you are on the go.
Remember fam, it is important to take personal responsibility and do our part for society as we navigate the pandemic. We can fight COVID-19 together.
