Selena Gomez’ MUA Wants You To Stop Committing This Concealer Faux Pax

Selena Gomez entrusts herself to Melissa Murdick before any appearance for a reason — the MUA knows what she’s doing, and she has something to tell us. Murdick took to the Internet with stripes of concealer embellishing her under-eyes, “Stop doing your concealer like this — it’s driving me nuts!” she exclaims. But isn’t that how we’ve been doing our concealer? Turns out — we’re doing it so wrong. Here’s what the MUA has to say about the technique, and how she gets her A-listers’ eyes ready for the carpet.

Beggin’ By Maneskin Playing In The Background Because She’s Right!

Don’t Swipe — It Drives Her Nuts

You know how you swipe tons of concealer onto your eyes before blending it outward with a brush? Stop doing that. It’s just going to make your under-eye look cakey and patchy, “When you’re younger, you can get away with putting on more makeup; but when you have any type of lines, this is going to settle into them — it’s going to look cakey. You do not need this much concealer,” Melissa explains.

She says that the technique tends to visually widen your face too — this isn’t flattering on everyone. “For instance, on somebody like Selena Gomez, that is the widest part of her face naturally. I would never highlight there, and you shouldn’t either,” she explains. “You might be looking at it thinking ‘oh my god, that looks great, it’s so bright’. But this is so much in person,” Murdick continues.

“Use Something Hydrating,” She Pleads

Melissa advises her followers against using a matte-based formula under the eyes. She suggests opting for something lighter and creamier instead — something that’s hydrating. You don’t want the product settling into lines, and making your under-eyes look dry.

Swirl, Swirl, Swirl

Melissa transfers a little bit of the product onto a (blending) brush instead, and swirls it onto spots that need coverage — not the entire under-eye area. She concentrates the product on the inside of her eyes, and blends it out outward for a seamless finish — this beats striping the entire area with concealer. If the outer-corners of your eyes are dark, you might find that dotting the area with a minimal amount of product has a better end-result than packing the area with too much concealer. This technique allows you to build the product the way you like. You can layer a colour-corrector onto your skin before concealer to cover any darkness.

Bless her for not gatekeeping her knowledge.
