So you’re one of those rarities who’s got no extravagant plans for New Year’s Eve? Truth be told, it is actually pretty cool. More so because it’s rare. Besides, the world will be just fine without you adding another fantastical Insta story proclaiming how 2024 will be awesome. Hey, there’s nothing against the folks with plans, but this is for the ones who’ve decided to take their NYE nice and slow, in the arms of their beloved.
Now, just because the two of you don’t have plans to party and drink all night, it doesn’t mean you can’t make the night exciting. No, I don’t necessarily mean sex. But what I mean to tell you is that there are ways to spend a sweet and romantic New Year’s Eve. For example –
1. Cook the final meal of the year ‘together’
Cooking a meal together is a pretty cool idea for a date. And what better than cooking the final meal of the year together? It gives you an activity to do, the results of which you can relish together, and it’s symbolic (if you know, you know).
2. Dance in the kitchen to ‘your’ song
Every relationship has a playlist. The topmost song is the one that brought you two together. Then follow the gems on the way, which become a part of your relationship’s journey as you navigate your individual lives together. Also, slow dancing in the kitchen is peak romance, and the occasion only heightens the mood.
3. Revisit your favourite moments spent together in 2023
Every day is a journey in a relationship. The final week of every year naturally brings with it an overwhelming sense of retrospection, introspection, and prospection. It may be a good idea to revisit the happy memories of the year to bid farewell and realise while it may not have been perfect, but it brought growth and perspective, regardless. While looking at the pictures, you can re-live your favourite anecdotes, and spend a jolly evening together.
4. Plan your upcoming trips for the year
Do away with the anticipatory nervousness and plan your incoming exciting getaways. If not anything, it gives you something to look forward to in 2024.
5. There’s nothing like a hot romantic shower, is it?
Embrace intimacy, both physical and emotional. It’d be a happy reprieve from the overthinking we tend to do in the final week.
6. A glass of wine, some popcorn, and Netflix and Chill
So you two have a lot of stuff pending in your ‘to-be-watched-together’ list? Well, what better day and time than now?
7. Play a game, anything
It could be a serious mind game like chess or a light-hearted pillow fight. You can even go for truth and dare, asking each other questions you’ve been meaning to ask for a long time. For dares, don’t think you’d need much help there, do you?
8. And of course, welcome 2024 with a midnight kiss
Happy New Year, you two! Also, (our) history tells us that waking up with a hangover on the 1st of January is not really a good idea, perse. We don’t always need to have exciting plans just because everyone around us has ’em. Sometimes, simple things are enough, if not more powerful.
