Survey Ranks Mumbai The Worst City For Drivers, Delhi Doesn’t Even Make It To The List

If you’ve ever lived in Mumbai, you already know that the roads in the city are in a pitiful condition. The roads are riddled with potholes and perennially jammed with traffic. According to reports, Mumbai is India’s most car-congested city, with 510 cars per kilometre. In fact, data from Maharashtra’s transport department says that 700 new vehicles hit Mumbai roads every day.

Underlining this is a recent survey by a French e-commerce company called Mister Auto, which deals in spare parts. The company conducted a survey that lists the best and the worst cities in the world for drivers. This survey ranks Mumbai last on a list of hundred cities. That’s right, according to the survey, Mumbai is the worst city for drivers in the world!

The only other Indian city to make it to the list was Kolkata–which also ranked very low — at 98 — making it the third-worst city in the world for drivers. Curiously, Delhi–the capital of India–didn’t even feature on the list, while capitals of other countries made it.

The cities that made it to the top of the list included the Canadian city of Calgary, UAE’s Dubai and Canadian capital Ottawa.

The aspects that the survey focussed on included the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, road quality, driving speed, car age and air quality.

“We decided to divide the parameters of the study into three categories that are most important to making a city a good location to drive: infrastructure, safety and costs,” stated the report.

However, the survey provided no information about the basis on which they short-listed the cities to be surveyed.
