American singer Bette Midler once said, “I firmly believe that with the right footwear, one can rule the world.” But she forgot to add that with the wrong footwear, one can literally fall on their face! Yesterday, I came across a video of supermodel Kristen McMenamy tripping on the ramp during the Valentino show at Paris Haute Couture Week. What could’ve easily become the one of most embarrassing moments of her life, turned into an iconic one!
In the viral video, the 58-year-old supermodel can be seen wobbling as she struggled to walk in her stilettos. Halfway across the ramp she lost her balance and fell. But what she did next completely stole my heart and that of the internet! She simply took off her heels, mumbled “f*uck this sh*t” and continued walking. Check out the video here:

The Model Who Made PETA Angry!
The fashion industry is constantly at odds with animal welfare organisations. PETA took things to the next level in 2002 when protestors followed Brazilian supermodel, Gisele Bündchen on the ramp. They held banners that read “Gisele: Fur Scum” to show their anger towards Bündchen for signing a contract with Blackglama, a brand popular for mink fur clothing. The model ultimately vowed never to use fur again and became an activist. Definitely a walk to remember!
Get, Set, Vitiligo!
Models with vitiligo aren’t a new phenomenon anymore. But it all started in 2018 when Victoria’s Secret had Winnie Harlow walk the ramp. It was the first time in history that a model with vitiligo was seen on the runway, making it one of my fave moments. The brand defied all stereotypes, and it was a major step towards inclusivity in the fashion industry.
The Ramp Walk That Still Makes Me LOL!
I understand that models must sometimes sync their walk with the theme of the collection, but this video still makes me go WTF! During Paris Fashion Week in 2019, Leon Dames, a German model, closed the walk for the Maison Margiela Spring 2020 show. His walk, however, sparked a slew of memes and hilarious reactions on social media. He stomped down the runway, as if irritated by something. NGL, the video still cracks me up!
When A Pregnant Bebo Walked The Ramp!
Maternity fashion is a thing now, all thanks to Kareena Kapoor Khan. She took the internet by storm when she turned showstopper for Sabyasachi at Lakme Fashion Week 2018. Bebo was one of the first Indian celebrities to have walked the ramp while being heavily pregnant, and she ended up setting quite a trend!
Being a model is not all glamm as it is made out to be. It requires a lot of discipline and hard work and tripping in front of a live audience is definitely not a nice feeling. Kudos to Kristen for handling it like a boss!
