Malaika Arora’s glow doesn’t come from a high-end serum or moisturiser. It comes from discipline. Though most of us associate yoga with fitness, and rightfully so, Arora does it for another reason: glowing, radiant skin.
Because, yes, certain asanas do enhance the health and appearance of your skin, and Malaika knows three of them. You might want to check ’em out ASAP.
Do refer to Malaika’s demonstrations for each asana before attempting them.
Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose)
This posture involves balancing your body on your shoulders. It directs more blood to your face, supplying your cells with more oxygen and nutrients for your skin to glow. This asana even builds strength around your shoulders and back. You can practice it against the wall if you need additional support. Hold the pose for 15 to 20 breaths.
Halasana (Plough Pose)
This pose involves lying on your back and stretching your feet toward the floor behind your head.
Stress triggers the production of cortisol — a hormone in the body which increases the production of oil on the skin that can clog your pores and leads to acne and inflammation. Halasana excels at relieving stress and calming anxiety. Along with that, since it’s an inversion, it boosts blood flow to the head and scalp, boosting hair growth there. You can hold the pose for 2 minutes.
Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)
Trikonasana doesn’t require sitting or lying down. It’s a standing pose that opens the chest and shoulders. This opening of the chest, according to Malaika, allows a supply of fresh oxygen to the skin. Along with benefiting the skin, it also tones your arms, legs, and thighs as you practice it regularly. You can do each side for 30 to 60 seconds.
I’m not a morning person but I know I’m going to try to become one now.
