Jacqueline Fernandez Posts About The Sri Lanka Attack: Let’s Not Give Up On Humanity

The terrorist attack that struck Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday (April 21) took over 250 lives and injured several hundred more. It left the world in a stir. People from all over the globe condemned the mass bombings and stood strong with Sri Lanka. Numerous global world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and UK Prime Minister Theresa May, sent their condolences and assured the country support in their hour of need.

Closer to home, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who is from Sri Lanka, spoke up about the attacks in a three-part Instagram video. “To be honest, I needed some time to fully comprehend what I was feeling and to fully comprehend what had happened. It was very difficult for me to understand why so many innocent lives had to be taken many of which were children,” said the 33-year-old actress.

Through the video, she urged her fans and followers to unite and help the victims rebuild their lives through an organisation called Trail that she has joined hands with for the cause. She said, “Let’s put aside nationality and caste and ethnicity and religion, and come together as one. I’d like to say, let’s not give up on humanity. Let’s not allow fear and anger to dictate how we react and how we fell and what we’re thinking.”

On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three Christian churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the capital Colombo were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, there were smaller explosions at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala totaling to eight bombings in the island country. National Thowheeth Jamaath, a radical Islamist group, claimed responsibility for the attacks in Sri Lanka.

To quote Jacqueline, “Sri Lanka, please stay strong, stay positive, and most importantly please stay united.”
