7 Iconic Handbags That Are Named After Celebrities!

While owning a luxurious handbag is a triumph for many, there’s nothing quite like having one named after you. Yes, it’s the ultimate dream come true! Though most of us can only dream about this extraordinary feat, many celebrities and royalties have actually achieved this honour. Many luxury fashion houses have taken inspiration from these legends and have actually created masterpieces named after them. So from Hermès Birkin to the Lady Dior bag, scroll down to know which iconic bag has been named after the A-listers.

Hermès Birkin: Named After Janes Birkin

The iconic Hermès Birkin bag was inspired by the late actress and singer Jane Birkin, who happened to pass away on 16th July ‘23. The bag has turned into a symbol of sophistication and elegance and captured the heart of many fashion enthusiasts. And the story of the bag is as iconic as it gets. In 1983, Jane happened to be seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas(the then Hermes Chief Executive) on a flight. During their meeting, the actress-singer complained to Dumas about how she’s unable to find a bag that fits all her things being a young mother. Hearing this, Dumas then and there sketched a bag that met Jane’s needs and named the bag after her. And now as we know the rest is history.

The Lady Dior bag: Named After Princess Diana

Princess Diana was known for many things, and being a poise and symbol of elegance was one of them. So no wonder one can feel that essence in the Lady Dior bag that was named after her. The bag that was previously named Chouchou, was given to Diana as a gift from Bernadette Chirac (wife of the then-French president) in 1995. After that, Diana was rarely seen without the iconic bag, taking it everywhere she went. Then in 1996, Christian Dior changed the name of the bag to Lady Dior as an homage to Diana.

Hermès Kelly: Named After Grace Kelly

The Hermès Kelly bag has become a must-have for many fashionistas. The bag might appear similar to the Birkin but the story of the Kelly bag is quite different. The bag was initially called Sac à Dépêches in the 1930s but was later named after the actress Grace Kelly. The actress became a princess after she married into a Monegasque royal family in 1956. Following her wedding, she was expecting her first child. One day, she used the Sac à Dépêches to hide her baby bump, which instantly became a sensation. After this, people informally referred to the bag as the ‘Kelly bag’ for years. However, it was in 1977 when the now-iconic bag was officially rebranded as the Hermès Kelly.
