Gaurav was my senior in med school. Amongst all the seniors, he was the one who I found kinda cute. In the first glance itself, my heart skipped a beat! My eyes used to search for him every time I saw a bunch of seniors hanging out. Somehow, I found out some details about him including his number. I gave him a missed call and he called back.
We spoke about generic things and casually ended the conversation. In the first call itself, we felt very comfortable as we had many things in common. He was an easy going yet reserved guy. We spoke to each other every day but he never asked me out on a date.
But then the day finally came. He was having his first-year practical exam mock classes in the anatomy dissection hall. I too had my first class in the same hall. I knew he would be there and it was the first time I would be learning how to dissect. Our batch had 100 students and everyone was excited to enter the dissection hall and to look at the cadaver.
But to my surprise, when I entered the anatomy hall I was shocked. I saw organs on one table, bones arranged from head to toe on another and demo skeletons and cadavers on the third table. All of us had mixed emotions, some were scared, some disgusted and some shocked. But my eyes were looking for him. All the seniors were busy studying and preparing for their final practicals! But I couldn’t see him. I even messaged him and told him that I was in the hall so that we could see each other but he didn’t reply.
The anatomy professor called out our respective roll numbers. The cadaver (a corpse intended for dissection in medical school) was covered in a sheet, but no one had the guts to go near it. My eyes were still searching for him and I kept checking my phone. I got a message from Gaurav saying, ‘I saw you’ but I didn’t see him and kept looking for him among 200 students.
My professor told me to read our the Cunningham’s Manual out loud to the group and told everyone to take a seat. Everyone was seated. I was standing and reading it out with so many questions in my mind. Was he still watching me? Where was he? Oh god! I wanna see him.
While I was reading, all I had in my mind was his face. While I was turning the page I just looked straight. There he was! Watching me, smiling at me! I had butterflies in my stomach that moment. I smiled back at him in excitement and forgot my surroundings. It was love at first sight.
Our love started in the anatomy dissection hall and we have been in a relationship for the past six years. I met him in medical college and he is the best thing that happened to me.
