It looks like celebrities are having a tough time styling velvet this season. After Kiara Advani’s appearance in a head-to-toe pink pantsuit in velvet, actress Mouni Roy and Miss World Manushi Chhillar have joined the ‘how not to wear velvet’ club and we cannot stop taking copious notes. Both of them wore a velvet dress, styled them in entirely different ways and both failed to make an impression.
Let’s begin with Manushi’s look, shall we?

Manushi Chhillar wore an indigo blue velvet maxi dress to the Miss World 2018 Talent finals. The dress had a statement-making one-shoulder sleeve and a thigh-high slit and she paired it with silver peep-toe heels, complementing the contrasting embellishments all over the dress.
Had these been tiny polka dots instead of big embellishments, the outfit would have been something else. Something good, in case I wasn’t clear.

To make things worse, Manushi wore gold-toned kundan jewellery with it. A hand harness and a pair of drop earrings added some Indianness to the western ball gown, so the end result was a confused look with out-of-place accessories. An elegant pair of silver-toned earrings would have done justice to the dress and made it look more tasteful.

Mouni’s look, too, broke our heart. The Gold actress wore a black velvet wrap dress and cinched it with an extremely OTT gold belt, giving the dress a blouson silhouette. Then there were her grey suede, over-the-knee boots that made us cringe.

Mouni was all dressed up for two of her friends’ birthday party last night. She completed her look with a chain sling bag with gold studs on it. Yes, that didn’t help either.

Veteran TV actress Aamna Sharif and popular South Indian actress Vedhika Kumar too attended the party with Mouni.
Keep the dress and the boots, but skip the belt and replace the gold sling bag with an evening clutch instead. Or, the dress and the matching sling bag can be paired with black heels, minus the belt, of course. Fitted boots don’t complement the blouson shape well.
