Blair & Serena To Be A Part Of Gossip Girl Reboot? Here Are All The Juicy Updates

Hey Upper East Siders, the Gossip Girl comes bearing good news today! After a pandemic hiatus, the filming of the Gossip Girl Reboot is all set to begin in October and the production of the show has already begun. But that’s not it! There are more beans to be spilled and if you were to believe the show’s makers, than this is going to a “reboot” unlike any other.

Rest assured, we can totally brace ourselves for some slice of life drama as the production takes into consideration how social media has evolved in the past decade. The reboot has been conceptualised keeping in mind how life and our general notions have changed in the times of social media stardom and influencer culture. Well, that’s an interesting peg to begin with, right? Here’s everything else that you need to know about the Gossip Girl reboot:

A Sneak Peek Into The Gossip Girl As We Knew It

Okay, this one should really soothe your Gossip Girl deprived soul: Kristen Bell would be rephrasing her role as the all-knowing narrator of the show. As per Hollywood Reporter, the show’s producers have said that “Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl.” As for us, we can’t even fathom the kind of nostalgia that’ll hit us in the face when we finally hear that familiar voice all over again.

Additionally, the producers have also shared that the storyline of the Gossip Girl reboot hasn’t been set in a parallel universe. All of it, in fact, would be unfolding in the very same world where Serena, Dan, Chuck, Blair, Nate, and the rest of the original Gossip Girl cast existed. In fact, Gossip Girl’s executive producer, Joshua Safran has confirmed the new characters will be duly addressing what exactly transpired in the lives of the former Gossip Girl cast.

As per Safran, all the new characters exist within the same universe. “It’s not a continuation or a sequel. It truly is just looking at a different angle. They are a part of the world. The characters talk about them and that they do exist,” he has shared in a media statement. Now, that’s the kind of tea we needed on a Monday, right?

More Inclusive Narrative

Well, as we have shared, the Gossip Girl reboot has been conceptualised as per the present day world and the producers have realised the importance of incorporating more inclusive stories as part of the undertaking. “There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show. I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to a private school in New York in the ’90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that,” Safran shared in a recent media statement.

He further added “I was like, you know what, I’d like to do some things we were unable to do the first time around. And that’s what kept me up at night — a more inclusive show, a more queer show, looking at how social media has changed in the 12 years since the original Gossip Girl — and then I couldn’t get that out of my head. There is actually a very different concept this time around, but we’re not telling you. And that made me be like,’sure, it’s 10 episodes. Maybe that’s all it’ll be, but I’m really glad to look at it in a new way. It’s different than most reboots.”

Wow, now that’s a new turn of events for Gossip Girl. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds!

Guess Who’s The New Gossip Girl?

And now comes the most important question of them all: who is the new Gossip Girl? But wait, if history was any lesson, we aren’t supposed to know this anytime soon, right? After all, the real Gossip Girl was only revealed in the final season of the show. However, with everything else, this too seems to have changed about the show.

Joshua Ian recently shared in an interaction with E! News that the idea of a group of young adults being manipulated by a gossip website is kinda passé now and wouldn’t “make a lot of sense.” Instead, the makers seek to highlight “this idea that we are all Gossip Girl now, in our own way, that we are all purveyors of our own social media surveillance state.”

Well, we are all Gossip Girl indeed! Didn’t we just deliver the juiciest piece of Monday gossip just now?
