Glitter Eyeshadow: Tacky Or Trendy? Here’s What We Think!

Chrome eyeshadow is the latest craze and my feed has been blowing up with runway and celebrity red-carpet looks that sport the new trend. I’m all about celestial shades, but when it comes to rocking a whole eye of pigmented shimmer, especially with my hooded eyes, it can be a little daunting!

Over the past few months, I’ve been on a mission to level up my makeup game, so I had to see if these looks were trashy or trendy. To truly understand how versatile these glittery shades were, I found a few popular looks where this trend totally slayed. Here’s the lowdown!

5 Times Pop Culture Moments Said Yes To Chrome

Janvhi Kapoor’s gorgeous all-silver photoshoot is where my obsession for chrome eyeshadow and this article stemmed from. This delicate silver eyeshadow is one of my absolute favourite shades and works well with a heavy blush and pink lips. If you’re looking for this white/silver shade, I recommend trying C.A.L Los Angeles Angelic Eye Shadow tin.

While the look above is a little subtle, I got into chrome eyeshadows so I could experiment with a few different looks. This editorial shoot Kylie Jenner did with Jean-Paul Glautier had her in a pink chrome look that extended to her cheekbones (just like a bronzer would!) and ended towards the apples of her cheek. 10/10 for me! I cannot wait to replicate this with the KILLAWATT Foil Freestyle Highlighter in the shade Ruby Richez.

With all the debate around the Dirty feature centred around Kareena Kapoor Khan, I have to say that the looks showed a woman comfortable in her own skin. Sporting a silver block eyeshadow, Kareena Kapoor took centre stage. I could not have picked a better muse for a look so in sync with modern trends. To replicate, try using the Shiseido Pop Powdergel Eye Shadow in the shade 07 Shari Silver.

As the modern-day Barbie, Margot Robbie’s prowess does not just extend to pink shades and shimmers. She rarely wears eyeshadows, but when she does, she makes a statement. I loved this atypical lime green glitter shade. It goes supremely well with her black ensemble but I would have never thought to pair the two together. If you’re looking for a similar shade, I suggest the Nicka K Radiant Liquid Eye Shadow in the shade Gold Lava.

Last, always on point with the intergalactic cat eye, Ariana Grande showed off a super sexy eye look in a post marking the second anniversary of her makeup brand r.e.m beauty. A great way to utilise your liquid glitter shadows I think. A dupe for her lustrous liquid eyeshadow is the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeshadow Mono Moondust in the shade Glitter Rock.

Whether you’re aiming for subtlety or looking to make a bold statement, chrome eyeshadows offer a range of possibilities that cater to every taste and skin tone. They’re no more considered tacky retro trends thanks to all the celebrities reviving the look. I’ve found multiple looks I’ll be recreating thanks to these divas!
