All The Makeup Tips We Learnt From Kim K’s MUA, Mario Dedivanovic At His India Masterclass

Say what you will about Kim K, but fewer things in the world are as precise as her makeup looks. She’s always serving no matter what the occasion or weather is like. At this year’s Nykaaland, we got the chance to take a masterclass with the wizard behind this artistry – Mario Dedivanovic.

A renowned makeup artist celebrated for his expertise in creating trendsetting looks on celebrities like the Kardashians, Mario’s mastery of makeup goes beyond experience. He is also known for his ability to hack the system and share his techniques in a the competitive industry. His masterclasses are a library of information since he uses the stage to share innovative tips and tricks with professional insights. To add on, he also has his own makeup brand – Makeup By Mario!

The maestro unveiled some of his most coveted makeup techniques that set the standard in the world of beauty. Here’s a rundown of the five most unique ones that will 100% transform your makeup routines.

Cream Over Powder

A rule we’ve all followed is to apply powder over cream. Mario Dedivanovic flips the script by layering cream eyeshadow over powder. Why? Well, this technique not only intensifies the pigment but also ensures a longer-lasting wear. The creamy texture blends seamlessly over the powdered base, creating a striking velvety finish. This method is perfect for achieving those high-impact eye looks that Kim is known for.

A Dual-Brush Approach

Mario’s approach to foundation is a game-changer. He starts with a flat-ish brush to apply the foundation, ensuring precise and even coverage. Then, he switches to a fluffy brush to blend it all in, creating a seamless, natural finish. This two-step process allows for your foundation to sit beautifully on the skin, avoiding any heaviness or cakiness.

Conceal & Correct

A man of many layers, Mario likes to use little foundation but recommends going in heavy with a concealer/corrector. The order he follows is corrector, followed by translucent powder to set it, and then foundation again.

This layered approach ensures any imperfections are thoroughly covered, providing a flawless base. The key is to use a peachy undertone concealer to brighten and correct under-eye darkness or uneven skin tones.

Contouring With A Smile

We’ve always been told to make a fishy face while contouring to identify the perfect placement of the product, so obviously, we were shaken when Mario said he asked his models to smile before contouring. This technique allows him to precisely locate the hollows below the cheekbones while mapping out how the face would look with natural movements, ensuring a natural-looking and perfectly placed contour.

He also recommends blending cream contour over skin that has already been set with powder. This is what gives you that seamless blend while looking skin-like. This technique emphasises the cheekbones in a subtle, flattering way and enhances the natural structure of the face.

Yellow Powder For Your Undereyes

The internet might be obsessed with pink setting powder in 2023, but Mario’s not on board with the trend. He uses a puff and yellow translucent powder to set the under eyes. The powder not only helps in setting the concealer, but the colour also significantly brightens the area since the yellow tones counteract any blue or purple undertones of dark circles. This trick is especially effective for long events where makeup needs to stay put and look fresh for hours.

At the end of the class, it was pretty clear that Mario’s approach to beauty was more than just getting that “perfect look”. Instead, he offered us a sneak peek into his world of techniques tested over time. And that totally changed the way I perceive beauty as a career.
