Amidst all the glowy, sunkissed skin in our generation of illuminators, we’ve lost track of what’s work-appropriate and what’s not! There’s a fine line between wearing makeup to work and wearing makeup on a casual day out. If you’re new to the corporate world and you’re struggling to find the right style, take cues from Gauri Khan. She shows you exactly how you can, and should, wear makeup to work.
The key to perfecting an office-appropriate makeup look without looking like you’re trying too hard is to keep it classy. If you work in a formal setup like a bank or an MNC, you want to keep your makeup look to the minimal. Stick to a neutral palette and matte makeup. You don’t want shimmer and glitter to be bouncing off your skin at a 10 am meeting. If you’re part of a more creative environment like an advertising agency you could perhaps experiment a bit with your lipsticks and eyeliner.
Here are 4 things to keep in mind when you’re getting ready for work!
Skin
Clean skin is always in! You want your skin to look as natural as possible. Skip the dewy, highlighting makeup products and stick to matte and satin-finish products. If you’re going to use foundation, use something that has light to medium coverage and mimics the look of your skin. Lightly powder areas where you tend to get oily through the day.
Try the Nykaa SKINgenius Sculpting & Hydrating Foundation (Rs 575) if you have dry skin and the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation (Rs 999) for normal, oily, and combination skin types.
Eyes
As a thumb rule, stay away from shimmer and glitter eye makeup. If you must wear eyeshadow to work, use matte eyeshadows in earthy tones (unless you want to wear your Monday blues on your eyelids!) Matte eyeshadows in hues of browns and burnt orange look best during the day, especially when worn to work. If you like wearing eyeliner, a matte finish gel liner or a liquid liner is most corporate-friendly. The glossy, shimmery eyeliners are best reserved for evening parties and weekends.
Try the Maybelline New York Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (Rs 525) and the Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette – Rosé In The Air (Rs 499)
Lips
Finding the right lipstick every day can seem like quite the task. However, there are a few lip colours like dusty rose and nude browns that look great paired with any outfit. A dusty, mauve-toned lipstick will brighten up a monotonous work outfit while a nude brown lipstick will tone things down. If there are only two lipsticks you choose to buy, these are your shades.
Try the Nykaa Matte To Last! Liquid Lipstick – Madras-Kaapi 05 (Rs 550) if you’re looking for that perfect brown and the Maybelline New York Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick – 15 Lover (Rs 650) for your most favourite dusty rose lipstick yet.
Hair
While you may have put in a lot of thought in your makeup and your skin, we often tend to neglect our hair. If you have frizzy hair, use a shampoo and conditioner designed to cut out the frizz. If you don’t have time to style your hair, brush your hair and consider a quick hairdo. Check out these no-fuss hairstyles. Alternatively, invest in a hair straightening brush to save time, and energy, in attempting to tame your tresses in any other way!
Try the Bronson Professional Simply Straight (Rs 700) or the Corioliss Travel Hot Brush (Rs 1,050). If you’re looking for a haircare system, the Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum (Rs 670) will cut the frizz right out of your hair.
