Our Diwali celebrations begin with our families and friends. They light up our life and make the festive season (or any season) special. Playing cards with our group of besties, making rangoli with our siblings and decorating the house with our parents – the Festival of Lights bring us all together and that’s the joy of the season.
This year, we are celebrating #POPxoWaliDiwali and making small changes in our life that will keep things clean and clutter-free. One of the promises we’ve made is to steer clear of crackers completely. Instead, we are celebrating the festival with people who matter the most to us.
Thinking of doing the same? Then take a look at this list of things you can do instead of bursting crackers this Diwali.
1. Visit An Orphanage
Have you heard that saying, ‘Khushi baantne se badhti hai’? So this year, start a new tradition with your family and visit an orphanage to celebrate with children who need you the most. You will fill their lives with love and happiness by spending just a few hours with them – play Housie, eat sweets and tell them a story from Ramayana. Their smiles will give you more joy than any rocket ever could.
2. Play Card Games
Gather everyone around after Diwali pooja and play a few rounds of teen-patti or rummy. If you have kids in the house, they will enjoy UNO or Housie. It depends on you whether you want to keep it cash-free (and play with sweets or fake currency) or win some cash from your sibling.
3. Customise A Gift Hamper
No gift can ever beat the one with a bit of personal touch to it. If you and your family are exchanging gifts this year, customise hampers for everyone. You can curate their favourite sweets, add little gifts and include useful products in their basket of love.
4. Decorate Your Home Together
Deck up your home with fresh flowers and make rangoli together. You can decorate all rooms with garlands, light scented candles and make torans together. Another fun activity is painting diyas and lighting them up.
POPxo Shop recently introduced their very own scented candles! Pick up a combo of four candles here.
5. Make Homemade Mithai
Ditch store-bought sweets this year and have some fun in the kitchen while making homemade gujiya and ladoo. Turn it into a family activity by making Diwali ki mithai together and offer it to your neighbours and friends.
6. Meet Family & Friends
Go beyond phone calls and texts this Diwali and wish your close friends and family members in person. Take some time out in the day and drive down to their house to give them a big hug (and their personalised hamper).
7. Relax Together
Diwali (and the days leading to it) can be tiring. After you’re done with the Diwali pooja, curl up in the living room and watch a movie together. It’s the perfect way to unwind after days of prepping for the day.
Have a happy and blessed Diwali!
