There’s no better way to put an end to a day than with a glass of wine, am I right?! But we all know what happens when we have TOO much wine! Think hangovers, dull and tired skin. Let’s just say that I’ve found you more than one amazing way to put that *extra* glass of red to use.
Red Wine: Good For Skin?
Did you know that red wine is just as good for your skin as it is for your body? Red wine has a great antioxidant called resveratrol, that has de-stressing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ageing properties. The fruit acids present in wine also increase blood circulation and promote skin healing. If that wasn’t enough, vino can also help fade scars. If you’re not jumping with joy just yet, I bet you will after you try one of these face masks!
Are you ready to de-stress and detox with some vinotherapy? Here are 3 super fun and easy face mask recipes using *drumroll* RED WINE!
DIY Soothing Face Mask: Red Wine, Honey and Yoghurt
This face mask is perfect for people with sensitive, dry and problematic skin. The lactic acid from the yoghurt will soothe and brighten up your skin and honey will nourish and moisturise it.
What You Need
1 tablespoon red wine
1 tablespoon plain yoghurt
1 tablespoon honey
What To Do
Start by pouring yourself a glass of course. You could steam your face to open up your pores, but this is totally optional. In a small mixing bowl, mix the wine, honey, and yoghurt to form a mask like consistency. Use your fingers or a foundation brush to paint yourself pretty. Wait for 15-20 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water. Slather on your favourite night cream and sleep like a baby! Use a wine based night cream like the Innisfree Wine Jelly Sleeping Pack for best results.
DIY Tightening Face Mask: Red Wine and Egg White
This face mask combines the anti-ageing and skin tightening properties of red wine and egg whites! It’s a great fix that will help you smoothen fine lines and wrinkles.
What You Need
2-3 tablespoons red wine
1 egg white
2 tablespoons honey
What To Do
Start by gently exfoliating your skin. We love the Innisfree Wine Peeling Jelly Softener. Rinse your face and pat it dry. Add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl and whisk them together until you have a smooth consistency. Use your fingertips to apply this onto your face. Leave it on for about 15-20 mins and wash it off with warm water.
DIY Clay Mask: Red Wine, White Clay and Aloe Vera Gel
This face mask is great for people with normal to combination skin. The clay will deep cleanse your pores and lighten blemishes, while the aloe vera gel will moisturise your skin.
What You Need
2 tablespoons red wine
1 tablespoon white clay or multani mitti
1 tablespoon aloe vera juice or aloe vera gel
What To Do
Start by gently steaming your face to cleanse your pores of any impurities. Rinse your face and pat it dry. Add all of the ingredients and mix them together. Use a brush to slather on this mixture and let it dry for a few minutes. Add some more wine or rose water as required to make the mixture into a comfortable consistency. Wash it off with warm water.
Trust me, give one of these face masks a go. The smell absolutely delectable and leave your skin feeling baby soft. People with sensitive, acne-prone skin have seen a decrease in the intensity of their breakouts and redness after just one use! I know what I’m doing today, what about you? *wink*
