While the start of May was spent gushing over the Met, the end of the month witnessed yet another installment of show-stopping looks displayed by the industry’s crème-de-la-crème at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This year observed a slew of designer-made ensembles fashioned by celebrities spanning the world—with many Indians sashaying down the carpet in a parade of statement-making looks. We’re rounding up some of the biggest beauty moments at this year’s Cannes—because, hey, they were revolutionary.
Bella Hadid’s floor-grazing ensemble was accompanied by multiple elements that cemented her look as one of the best from the night. Her head-swiveling cat-eye reigned supreme—notice how eyeliner spills onto most of her lid, and diffuses into sharper-than-ever flicks toward the end. Rimmed with a streak of jet-black kohl, her under-eyes spelt sultry, and her cheekbones attested to the miracle of highlighter. The 25-year-old model punctuated her look with a slicked-back, nape-grazing bun, and chunks of side-swept bangs draped across her forehead.
Aditi Rao Hydari has always been a proponent of simplicity, and her all-white Cannes look testifies to that. The Indian actress epitomised elegance with her sari-clad alter-ego, and climaxed her look with a slicked-back, low-hanging updo, classic-red lips, perfectly-arched brows, and subtly smoked-out eyes. Her pea-sized bindi, in a nod to tradition, pulled the look together effortlessly.
Emily Ratajkowski, in all of her supermodel-like glory, commanded everyone’s attention at this year’s Cannes—courtesy of the full-on fringe draped across her forehead (FYI, they were clip-ins). The enduring appeal of the fringe was further bolstered by her all-over sultry aesthetic—with her cheeks singing to the praises of rose-tinted blush, and her eyes displaying a bronze-hued smokey-eyed look.
Deepika Padukone stunned us in varying aesthetics over the course of a few days, but this one goes down as the best. Clad in a glitter-studded Sabhyasachi sari, the 36-year-old actress displayed a proclivity for fierceness owing to her Julia Fox-like, bold, jet-black winged-out lids. Though this look had everyone on the Internet conflicted over whether she pulled it off or not, it’s clear that it made a statement, and complemented her all-black aesthetic flawlessly—further glamourised by a headband-encrusted updo.
Anne’s look dominated Instagram’s algorithm, and metamorphosed into headlines within hours—with many admiring the minimalism of her makeup, and commenting on how The Devil Wears Prada actress hadn’t aged at all. While undertones of pink came into bloom on her face, her lustre-laden, face-framing tresses were declared the event’s show-stopper.
Aishwarya mirrored the aesthetic of her flower-studded ensemble with pops of pink punctuating her look, and a hard-to-miss cat-eye dramatising her makeup. She opted for a centre-parted, coiffed up hairdo, and let her hair cascade down her shoulders effortlessly.
