Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee dropped a major surprise bomb on us last month that left us jumping with joy. The couple announced that they were expecting their first child and we couldn’t be happier for them. Ever since then, the actors have kept us hooked to their social media handles with their adorable dance videos and cute pics.
But, behind those happy faces and joyous smiles, there’s a story of patience, struggle and faith that we don’t know about. During a recent interview with a leading daily, Debina opened up about her pregnancy journey and the challenges she is facing. Scroll on to read everything she shared.
The actress revealed that she faced some medical issues before she conceived and had to go through several treatments to get in a better space. Moreover, Debina had to constantly dodge societal pressure that questioned her for not embracing motherhood after more than 10 years of marriage. TBH, that’s problematic on so many levels and while talking about it, she said, “People cannot function under too much pressure or criticism. People may still perform under pressure but criticism hurts. Don’t let society affect you for whatever reason. Keep yourself calm and keep your goal intact in your life.”
The decision to become parents is personal. It’s infuriating that our society thinks that it is alright to make someone uncomfortable by bombarding them with offensive questions. We’re glad that both Debina and Gurmeet didn’t let the criticism or pressure get to them.
Debina revealed that she was diagnosed with endometriosis (a condition in which the bleeding happens inside the walls of the uterus) a few years ago. This caused difficulties in her pregnancy and she often felt low during her course of treatment. As a soon-to-be mom, she suggested all women keep their support group close. “It is not your journey alone. Keep your husband strongly in this. Share with him. Don’t do this fight all by yourself. It’s ok to feel low during pregnancy. Discuss with your husband, your support group. You can write to me too,” she said.
That’s really sweet, Debina! We’re glad that all your affirmations and optimism have finally brought you the joy that you envisioned for yourself. Now, we cannot wait to meet #Gurbina’s little munchkin soon.
