Now that we know our own power, there is no stopping women anymore! After the amazing show of solidarity at Golden Globe Awards, there is another reason for the ‘fairer’ sex back home to rejoice! A Delhi girl, Chhavi Gupta was one of the twenty people all over the country to score a 100 percentile in Common Admission Test, or CAT, as we know it!
She was one of the two girls to be placed in the 100 percentile. Even though the number of people in the perfect percentile was the same as last year, this year saw two women and three non-engineers on that list!
It is a well-accepted fact that it’s not an easy feat to bell the CAT. And while most give up jobs to study for a year, Chhavi prepared for the exam while holding a full-time job as a business analyst in a technology and analytics firm.
Chhavi had previously studied at and received her dual B.Tech and M.Tech degree in Biotechnology from IIT Delhi and hopes to get into IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta. For this girl, academic excellence is not new since she also cleared her IIT-JEE exam in the first attempt, just like CAT!
Talking about how she recognises that only a few women are in her position, she said “If boys are studying, and I have seen this amongst some of my distant relatives, they will not disturb them. But a girl would still be asked to help out with household chores. Two, the priorities for many parents is to get the daughter married off after her graduation and so not many women really attempt the postgraduate level entrance exams… Thankfully, I had a family that supported me 100%.” She does have a point though!
Kudos to all these women who are setting an excellent example for other women to follow!
