Ever since the trailer of Brahmāstra dropped, there has been much chatter about the film. From rumours of a sequel to cameos of famous Bollywood stars, fans are hella excited to see what this franchise has to offer. However, along with all the positive buzz, the movie has also received some backlash.
In one of the scenes from Brahmastra’s trailer, Ranbir Kapoor’s character is seen entering a temple with shoes on. This clip of the tailer hurt the religious sentiments of many fans and the hashtag #BoycottBrahmastra started doing the rounds on various social media platforms.
Recently, director Ayan Mukerji took the the ‘Gram to reach out to fans who were upset with the scene and clarified his intent. He said, “We had some people in our community upset because of one shot in our Trailer – Ranbir’s character wearing shoes as he rings a Bell. As the Creator of this film (and a devotee), I wanted to humbly address what happened here. In our movie, Ranbir is not entering a temple, but a Durga Puja Pandal.”
The note further said, “My own family has been organising a similar kind of Durga Puja Celebration for… 75 years! One, which I have been a part of since my childhood. In my experience, we only take off our shoes, right on the stage where the Goddess is, and not when you enter the Pandal. It is personally important for me to reach out to anyone who may have been upset with this image… because above all, Brahmstra is created as a movie experience which pays respect to, and celebrates – Indian culture, traditions and history.”
Brahmāstra is the first part of Ayan’s trilogy and is titled, Shiva. It also is the beginning of Indian cinema’s first superhero universe, The Astraverse. The film is scheduled to hit the silver screen later this year and we cannot hold our excitement! Could September 9 get here any faster?
