There is obviously no one way to apply liquid highlighter- you can mix it with your foundation, primer or moisturiser to give an overall glowy look or you can go the more traditional highlighter route. After applying your cream products, dot the liquid illuminator to the areas of the face that are naturally hit by the sunlight i.e. your cheekbones, your cupid’s bow and the bridge of your nose. Use your fingers or a beauty sponge to blend it into the skin well. The key is to use small portions and then build up the coverage to your liking.
When you want to use a liquid illuminator with your foundation just take both of those in equal parts and mix it on the back of your hand. The total product in your hand should be a small coin-sized amount. Dot it on your face and then blend how you would your foundation- with a brush or a sponge. Move in outward strokes and make sure the product spreads evenly- you don’t want to look splotchy and patchy, do you?
Again, there are no fixed rules for liquid highlighters. You can apply it to the high points of your face for a high-shine look, you can apply it all over your face (mixed with foundation) for a dewy look or even on your body like decolletage and shoulders for that glam goddess look. You can even mix it in with your good body moisturiser and put it on your arms and legs for a model-like glow.
One type of highlighter isn’t better than the other- it’s more about preference. If you have dry skin then liquid highlighter will work better for you because it adds much needed luminosity to your skin. It is also a more versatile product and can be used in many ways as mentioned above. Other than that, liquid highlighters also have buildable coverage- they can give you a natural radiance while can also be built up for a blinding highlighted look.
Cream or liquid highlighters could be a bit much for people with oily skin as the skin is also dewy and shiny. Choose powder products if you want to use highlighter but if you really want to go for a liquid one then use the tiniest bit on the high points of your face. All over face with highlighter may make your skin look super shiny and not in a nice way.
The general rule with a liquid illuminator for face is that you should choose a shade that’s about two shades lighter than your skin tone for a natural-looking finish. Other than that, even your undertone plays a part. Warm undertones go well with gold and bronze shades while cool undertones go well with pearly white and silvery shades.
So, ready to look like a glowy goddess?
