Picture this: You just made love and now you are just lazing around in the bed…So what comes next? As it turns out, there are a bunch of things that women should do right after sex to keep their lady bits hygienic and happy. While we get that all you want to do after a steamy session is cuddle and chill, your vag actually needs more attention post-intercourse.
Don’t worry fam, we got you! There are some pretty simple things you should do after sex to keep your vagina and your libido equally happy.
Let’s be real, sex is messy! Lube, saliva, discharge…You get the picture right? This is why your vagina needs a thorough cleanup after a hot sesh. Stick to a gentle rinse with warm water after sex. Don’t reach for scented lotions/creams/wipes as they can cause infection. Remember: a healthy vagina is a happy vagina!
We literally can’t stress this enough! If you want your vagina to stay infection-free, then don’t forget to pee after sex. Even if mother nature doesn’t call, answer anyway! Allow us to get a little technical about this: During sex, the bacteria from the rectum (which is in close proximity to the vagina) can get into your urethra and cause an infection. Peeing helps to flush away the bacteria (no pun intended) and leave your vagina in a healthy state. Repeat after us: If you want to keep your vajayjay infection-free, always remember to pee!
If you are experimental in bed (go get it, girlfriend!) then chances are you use a number of sex toys to play with in bed. Once you are done, don’t store them without a proper cleanup! It is not enough to wipe them, as you need to disinfect your sex toys with hot water and mild soap. Carefully go through each product’s care instructions so you know how to clean and store it properly. Unclean sex toys can spread fungi, viruses, bacteria, and sexually transmitted infections.
Remember what Geet said in Jab We Met? Paani ka kaam paani hi karta hai! After you are done with a hot and heavy session it is time to hydrate yourself. Don’t forget folks, dehydration affects your entire body—including your vagina. Another advantage of sipping water after coitus is you pee more! It is a win-win.
We know it sounds icky, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Always check the condom for breakage! If you aren’t sure how to do that, check out here. If it turns out that your condom was compromised then you’ll have time to consider the next steps, like opting for emergency contraception or taking a test for STI (sexually transmitted infection).
So fam, before you get into a cuddly sesh with your bae, don’t forget about these steps!
