Got Replaced In Dozen Films: Vidya Balan Opens Up About The Lowest ‘Low’ In Her Career

Vidya Balan is a legit superstar. She has proved her acting prowess with phenomenal movies like Paa, Bhool Bhulaiya, The Dirty Picture and Tumhari Sulu. And now, she is all set for the release of her next film, based on the life of the mathematics genius Shakuntala Devi (also known as the Human-Computer). Vidya Balan is one of the brilliant actors we have in the industry today, but the journey has not been easy for her. From body shaming to casting couch, the actress had to face it all. The actress recently opened up about that phase of her career when she struggled to get work before she finally bagged Parineeta.

In an interview with a media portal, Vidya spoke about how she thought she had hit rock bottom when she was ‘replaced’ in many films down South. “Maybe before I got Parineeta, there was a period of about three years when I got replaced in a dozen South films and nothing I did seemed to be working. I thought maybe my dream of becoming an actor will remain an unrealised one. So that was probably a really low ‘low’. The lowest ‘low’!” said the actress.

Revealing that the actress has been through deep lows in her life even after she gave enthralling performances, “Ups and downs are part of life, they don’t happen only when you’re struggling for your first break, even after becoming an actor, I’ve been through very deep lows,” she added. The actor also shared that she confides in her husband, Siddharth Roy Kapur, whenever she is struggling with something.

Vidya further revealed that she used to feel dejected when she heard her friends saying negative things about her. “I would get hurt by comments from people who I thought were my friends. You know sometimes they’ll say things to put you down and I never understood that. Then I realised they weren’t my friends, they were people I was working with. That realisation comes from experience and maturity. I’ve enjoyed working with a lot of those people but they are not friends,” she said.

The makers of Shakuntala Devi recently dropped the trailer of the film. And from the looks of it, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Vidya is going to nail the role of the spunky, sassy and full-of-life Math wizard. Due to the pandemic, the film release will happen on Amazon Prime on July 31. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta in pivotal roles.
