Coloured Contact Lenses: All You Need To Know

You may have heard a lot about contact lenses and how wearing them can help you ditch glasses, but did you know that there are also disposable contact lenses which can be worn only for a day? Needless to say, selecting the perfect contact lenses is tough, but what’s tougher is making a routine and taking care of them, along with your eyes. Be it the types of coloured contact lenses or contact lenses online, your brief guide on the subject is here.

Types Of Coloured Contact Lenses

Depending on the kind of tint they have—faint or strong—to the span for which they can be worn, there are several types of coloured contact lenses you can choose from. Whether you want to highlight the original colour of your eye or change it completely to get a new look, there’s something for everyone. What’s more, you can pick coloured contact lenses online!

1. Visibility Tinted Lenses

These types of coloured contact lenses come with a slight tint, making them easier to view while you aren’t wearing them. Along with the ease of wearing and taking off, thanks to the slight hint of colour, these coloured contact lenses do not change the original colour of your eye. Inclining towards cooler shades, they have a faint tint of green or blue. For a wearer who wishes to use coloured contact lenses but not change the colour of their eyes, visibility tinted lenses are the perfect pick.

2. Enhancement Tinted Lenses

These types of coloured contact lenses are known for enhancing the natural colour of your eyes. So if you happen to have light brown eyes, these coloured contact lenses will intensify the colour of your eyes. Based on their characteristics, enhancement tinted lenses are suitable for people who want to heighten the original colour of their eyes.

3. Opaque Tinted Lenses

Want to significantly alter the colour of your eyes? We got just the type of coloured contact lenses you need. As opposed to the tinted contact lenses, opaque lenses can be used to change the colour of your eyes, so if you are looking for a break from your original eye colour, this is what you need!

4. Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

As the name suggests, daily disposable contact lenses are the coloured contact lenses you can discard after a day’s wear. Especially preferable for those who do not normally wear contact lenses and wish to use one for a special event, these types of coloured contact lenses are perfect for one-time use. Of course, the word disposable does not always refer to contact lenses that have to be gotten rid of on a daily basis; the usage of disposable contact lenses can vary anywhere from a day to two weeks, depending on the type of contact lenses you have chosen.

5. Monthly Coloured Contact Lenses

For people who wish to invest in types of coloured contact lenses that last longer, the option of monthly coloured contact lenses offers help. Pertaining somewhat to the concept of disposable contact lenses, monthly coloured contact lenses need to be stored in a solution that comes along with them, making them last up to 30 days. For people who need to wear their lenses for consecutive events in a month, these work perfectly well. Even if they haven’t been worn every single day in a month, monthly coloured contact lenses have to be disposed of after a month.

Coloured Contact Lenses For Indian Skin

When it comes to choosing from the various types of coloured contact lenses, there are a plethora of options. From contact lenses based on how long you can use them to those based the colour of contact lenses, the choices are many. If you are facing difficulties in which colour to pick (we have all been there, TBH), the first thing to keep in mind is to not restrict yourself, but at the same time choose wisely. After all, you would hardly be picking bright red lenses for daily wear, amirite?

Before picking coloured contact lenses that are in sync with an Indian skin tone, an important fact to note is that we live in a diverse country, where different ethnicities co-exist together. So to assume that everyone shares the same appearance would be incorrect. Also, choices will vary depending on the different eye colours found in India. Contrary to popular belief, the most common eye colour in India is brown, not black. Keeping all this in mind, there are many options to pick from when it comes to coloured contact lenses and the hues in which they are majorly available. Here’s a list of colours, amongst many, that are popular choices you may browse through when looking at coloured contact lenses online.

1. Brown

You may feel like black is your natural eye colour, but look closely enough, and you might find it to be a dark shade of brown, at least in most cases if you happen to be from India. This makes brown a preferable colour in contact lenses, especially for those who want to retain their natural colour.

2. Grey

It may sound like a weird choice of colour, but a light tint of grey forms for an impeccable colour in contact lenses.

3. Blue

Perhaps the most popular out of all the types of coloured contact lenses, blue within itself has many shades. Opt for a darker hue if you wish to highlight your eyes or go light; the choice is yours.

4. Green

As the picture above suggests, green is one of the rarest eye colours in India, so it is only natural that a number of people opt for the coloured contact lenses in this hue.

5. Amber

Amber or honey-coloured lenses that incline towards a light hue are a popular choice amongst people who favour a lighter shade of contact lens, as opposed to their dark natural brown hue.

How To Take Care Of Contact Lenses

How to take care of contact lenses, you ask? We got you covered. It cannot be emphasised enough that contact lenses are super sensitive and considering that they are applied into your eyes, they need to be appropriately cared for. To make it easier, here are some ways in which you may keep them sanitised to avoid any infections.

1. First and foremost, it is important to listen to the instructions your doctor discusses with you. If you are asked for anything in particular in order to take care of your lenses and by extension your eyes, follow it down to a T.
2. Wash your hands and dry them before putting on your lenses or removing them.
3. In order to clean and store your lenses, make sure to use only the proper solution that your doctor has advised. Do not use water or a random saline solution for storing your coloured contact lenses.
4. Replace the solution you use to store the lenses on a daily basis. This will help avoid bacteria growing in it and minimize the risk of giving you an eye infection.
5. Change your contact lenses case at least once every 3 months to avoid any form of infections.
6. Clean your lenses every day before wearing them. Wash your hands, then rub your lenses gently and rinse them using the solution you use for storing.
7. Apply your eye makeup after you have worn your lenses and remove your make up AFTER you take your lenses off.
8. Avoid using hairsprays or deodorants after wearing coloured contact lenses. If you are someone who uses them, spray them on before putting on your lenses.
9. Make sure your nails aren’t long and sharp, as they might hurt your eyes while wearing or removing your lenses.
10. If for any reason you feel that your contact lenses are causing irritation or you feel your vision even slightly blurred, avoid wearing them and consult your doctor immediately.

2. Use a lint-free towel to dry your hands after washing.
3. Stop wearing your contact lenses anytime you feel even the slightest irritation.

Don’ts

1. Don’t use water to clean or store your lenses. Stick to the solution your doctor has suggested.
2. Don’t rub your eyes. Rubbing your eyes causes damage to the cornea even whilst you are not wearing lenses, but if you are, you ought to be more careful as to not rub your eyes to avoid irritation and the risk of getting an infection. Frequently rubbing your eyes may also lead to blurred vision, which could require a corneal transplant if things take a turn for the worse.
3. Don’t swim, shower or perform any activities that involve the contact of your eyes with water while wearing your lenses. Water in pools and hot tubs, however clean, may have bacteria that could infect your lenses and in turn your eyes. To be safe, take them off before you end up getting into the pool or a shower, cleaning your eyes thoroughly before wearing your coloured contact lenses again.
4. Don’t sleep with your contact lenses on, for it could cause irritation to the eyes. Take off your lenses before taking even a short nap.
5. Don’t put contact lenses in your mouth if you wish to avoid infection.
