13 Things That Change When You Move In with Someone Else!

Moving out and living on one’s own is everyone’s ultimate dream. But besides living with your parents and having your own place is the third stage of existence – when you must share an apartment with someone else, get a hang of things, learn to live with people who aren’t your parents and so won’t clean up after you all the time. Here are a few things that change when you move in with someone – whether it’s with your boyfriend or a roommate!

1. Long Hot Water Baths

These luxurious baths never quite work out the way they used to when you get a roommate or a boyfriend. You share the bathroom with another person and therefore spending hours in the shower becomes quite impossible!

2. Alone Time

If you cherish moments of solitude, be prepared, you’re not going to get any when you move in with someone. It’s impossible to sit and read, or watch a film, or have a glass of wine alone when there is another human being around all the time!

3. Sexy Time

You know how you and your boyfriend look forward to those few days a week when you “got it on”? They will soon become history once you move in with him. Sex is going to become routine ,and there will be days when you guys will choose to watch television instead of taking your clothes off.

4. Having Your Say In Everything

Living alone guarantees that YOU decide the colour of the curtains, where the bed is placed, which side of the bed you get, what newspaper you get delivered, and what you watch on television. When you’re sharing a living space, however, all of these things need to be properly discussed and decided on together. No wonder Sheldon had Leonard sign a roommate agreement!

5. Movie Nights

You will need to make peace with watching action flicks and gory films once in a while if that is what your roommate or boyfriend likes.

6. Your Appearance

Initially, we are all careful about looking our best even at home – wearing proper night clothes, getting threading done regularly and making sure we meet our waxing appointments. With time, however, you and your roommate will get used to each other’s dishevelled appearance.

7. Chores

If your roommate or boyfriend is the only one sweeping floors and washing utensils, you are in a lot of trouble, girl! Make sure you have a proper plan to divide chores.

8. Girls’ Nights

These will become rarer and rarer if you move in with your boyfriend. Not because you can’t get enough of him but because domesticity usually inspires laziness.  So make sure to make weekly plans with your besties, or you’ll lose touch with them!

9. Honeymoon Phase

Honeymoon phases don’t last too long after couples move in together. But the point is to know that this will happen and to be okay with it.

10. The Joy of Living with Other Girls

It’s completely normal to have this reaction to having to move in with your boyfriend!

11. Becoming Caring

You have to become less self-centred when you are living with someone else. You can’t just make yourself dinner and leave your roomie to fend for herself! Remember, you are a team; you have to have each other’s backs.

12. Personal Hygiene and Cleanliness

Your flat might have looked like a dust and spider-web-covered spook house when you were living alone, but you have to learn to clean up when sharing a house with another person.

13. YOU Change

It makes you more responsible and teaches you how to live healthy and clean while being a great person to live with!
