A sticky, tacky serum or primer is not quite evocative of the texture and consistency of a gel-based, water-light product; but it goes a long, long way in camouflaging blemishes, acne, and spots on the face — at least according to this hack going around on the Internet.. MUA Mikayla Jane has dreamt up a four-step routine that endows you with an acne-free, ultra-smooth canvas to work with — all you have to do is build a tolerance toward the stickiest of formulas. Because you need to drown your skin in them for this hack, and it truly pays off. Ahead — the reveal.
Brace Yourselves — Your Skin Is About To Get Real Sticky
This is exactly how Mikayla does it:
- Step One: She massages a few drops of a hydrating Hyaluronic Acid-infused serum into her skin — noting that the formula should feel a little sticky on the face post application, “Any serum that leaves the face feeling a little bit tacky after it’s applied is going to work,” she explains. Let it dry for a minute or two. You can prep your skin with a mist or toner.
- Step Two: She goes in with a ‘gripping’ primer next — something that feels sticky, and grips onto your makeup while priming your face. Her skin looks very tacky already.
- Step Three: Next — comes a matte-textured concealer that she transfers onto every little blemish and spot on the face with a brush. Don’t blend the product into the skin at all, and let it dry for about 2 to 5 minutes. She dries the product on her face with a little fan to speed up the process. The logic behind opting for a matte-based concealer is that it dries faster and better.
- Step Four: Now — without blending any of the product, go over your entire face with a medium-to-full coverage foundation. Use a blender or sponge for the same to avoid disturbing any of the dried-down conceal underneath.
- Step Five: You’re done. Continue doing the rest of your makeup like you normally would.
A sticky canvas grips onto your concealer, and makes it tackier and heavier. Not blending the concealer allows a more pigmented and heavier coverage too. Your spots and acne really do need that extra-heavy coverage.
