So Proud! Smriti Mandhana Becomes Second Fastest Indian to Score 2000 ODI Runs

Twenty-three-year-old star cricketer, Smriti Mandhana, has done India proud. The left-handed batswoman officially became the second fastest Indian to score 2,000 runs in one-day internationals. She achieved the record-breaking score in the third ODI against West Indies. The match, which was held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Wednesday, was won by India by six wickets.

With a target of 195 runs, Smriti opened the match and scored 73 runs off 63 balls. Her feat not only helped her make the record, but also helped India win the match.

Smriti achieved the feat in her 51st inning, becoming the third-fastest woman after Belinda Clark and Meg Lanning to achieve the milestone. The only other Indian to hold the record of scoring 2,000 runs in 50-overs cricket is Shikhar Dhawan, who reached the mark at 48 innings. Virat Kohli, whose position Smriti beat, touched the mark in 53 innings.

Until now, Smriti has scored 2,025 runs in 51 ODIs at an average of 43.08. She has scored four centuries and 17 fifties till now in her ODI career. Earlier this year, she received the Arjuna Award for outstanding achievement in sports from Minister of Sports, Kiren Rijiju.

She has certainly done her country proud. Here’s to Smriti achieving more such feats in the future!
