10 Skincare Rules EVERY College Girl Should Live By!

College is hectic, time-consuming and it often leaves you with very little time to pay attention to your skin. However, there are some skincare rules that every college girl should follow without fail. Read on to find out how you should take care of your skin in college.

1. Wash Your Face Every Morning

A very basic and essential part of your skincare routine should be cleansing your face every morning. It will help to remove the oil buildup that tends to happen overnight and keep you looking fresh for those 8 a.m. lectures. However, don’t use harsh soaps on your face. Instead, try a good face wash or cleanser to gently cleanse your skin without stripping it of moisture.

2. Moisturize Yourself

Moisturization is important to keep your skin soft and smooth. It doesn’t matter whether you have dry skin or oily skin, it is imperative that you keep it hydrated. Did you know that dry skin can lead to a faster onset of wrinkles? Every night before you sleep and every morning after you bathe, make sure to use a good moisturizer to keep your skin supple and soft.

3. Sunscreen Before Stepping Out

College means running around to grab a bite between classes or to get readings photocopied. It means chilling on the college lawns and long hours outside to practice for a play or to organize events. The result? Your skin is exposed to harmful rays of the sun. Besides giving you a tan, this also puts you at risk of various skin diseases and will make your skin age faster. So always wear a sunscreen before you step out!

4. Lip Love With A Lip Balm

A chapstick or a lip balm is something that almost every girl carries with her to college, and that’s a good thing. Your lips need some TLC too, and a lip balm will protect them and keep them from getting too chapped and dry. Make sure you use a lip balm with good, natural ingredients that won’t dry your lips out further.

POPxo Recommends: Biotique Bio Aloe Vera Nourishing Lip Balm (Rs 149)

5. Exfoliate A Couple Of Times A Week

Your skin needs to breathe too. Exfoliating two or three times a week will help you to get rid of dead skin cells and unclog your pores. We suggest that you use a gentle scrub to exfoliate your skin, keep it smooth and get rid of blackheads. You can even make your own scrubs at home using sugar and olive oil!

6. Pamper Your Skin With A Face Pack

Once or twice a week, show your skin some extra love by using a face pack on it. It will help de-tan your face and will also cleanse your skin deeply and give it a natural glow (that no highlighter can replicate!) Using a good face pack or mask on your skin two or three times a week will really show you a visible difference in your skin’s quality.

7. Drink A Lot Of Water

Water is so important for good skin that we can’t stress this one enough. With our hectic college schedule, we often forget to drink enough water. But that’s a big mistake. The running around, long hours in the sun, all those parties and sipping on caffeinated beverages can actually dehydrate your skin. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep your skin supple and hydrated.

8. Remove Your Makeup Before You Sleep

Your kajal, your lip gloss, your eyeliner – all of it should go off your skin before you hit the bed. Sleeping with makeup on can clog your pores and lead to breakouts and rashes, which is something you definitely do not want. Pro tip: coconut oil works like a charm to remove makeup!

9. Treat Yourself To A Mani-Pedi Once In A While

A manicure and pedicure session is not only super relaxing but it also helps to keep your hands and feet soft and polished. A mani-pedi will soften your cuticles, strengthen your nails, improve blood flow and of course, give you gorgeous nails to flaunt.

10. Sharing Is Not Always Caring

If you live away from home, chances are you’ll be sharing a room or a bathroom with other girls while you stay in a hostel or a rented accommodation. In such a scenario, sharing your personal things is often the norm. However, there are certain items of personal hygiene you should never share. These include things like your makeup, your towel, your comb, your loofah and more. Sharing these things can lead to skin issues.
